GN HQ kiss of death

Have you noticed that the minute GNHQ post a thread up in "from our forums" box over on the right there, it seems to be an immediate kiss of death - we all get shy and stop posting on the thread. Must be infuriating for them. grin

I click on them sometimes. And on the ones on the 'front page'.

I've posted on the OCD one but I think I'll give hot flushes a miss. Been there, done that, not to mention the sweaty T shirt.

Ana Wed 28-Nov-12 20:13:02

Yes, I've noticed. They always seem to be lagging behind a bit, too - sometimes the thread's way down the active list by the time they highlight it!

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 28-Nov-12 20:33:53

Yes, you are too speedy for us. Keeps us amused though, deciding which ones to put up there.
They are particularly out of date at the moment because we have had an awayday today, plotting [secret squirrel emoticon] so we're way behind. <looks at the number of emails again, panics.>

jO5 Wed 28-Nov-12 20:41:04

I think they're gonna make a film about us.

Ahhhh...Away Days....(gazes nostalgically into the distance).

There's another thing I love about being retired! grin

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 28-Nov-12 20:45:25

Actually, whenim, it was very nice. We had cupcake

whenim64 Wed 28-Nov-12 20:53:43

Glad you enjoyed it Geraldine! I loved Away Days in theory, but 16 bolshie probation officers with a loathing of their senior managers and a love for 3 hour lunches somehow always turned Away Days into opportunities to vent anger about cuts and redundancies. Our first ground rule was usually 'We will stick to the agenda.' That would go west by morning coffee, then it was every man for themselves. Happy days! grin

JessM Wed 28-Nov-12 20:54:24

I'm envious. On both counts. We managed without you though grin grin grin

jeni Wed 28-Nov-12 21:18:13

We never had them. And still don't. I'm depraved deprived

gracesmum Wed 28-Nov-12 21:23:59

In teaching (as I expect other public sector people ) we used to have these silly days where ostensibly we were being taught how to be better teachers. They usually started with "work with a partner/in a small group" and you had to come up with ways of being a better teacher. Then you had the lunch - the highlight of the day - then you fed back your group's ideas at the plenary, then you went home. It was a day off school, a lunch and usually a trip to a nice hotel, but what a waste of money!

What does OCD mean...can someone explain please.

jeni Wed 28-Nov-12 21:37:41

Obsessive compulsive disease

messenger Wed 28-Nov-12 21:41:25

`Gracesmum` at last and not I hope least...we agree on one topic..`teacher` training days are a waste....why are they, the teachers that is,on training days when the are SUPPOSED to be qualified?

messenger Wed 28-Nov-12 21:43:13

Thank you Jennie ...getting the hang of it now.

petallus Wed 28-Nov-12 21:58:33

I think the D stands for Disorder.

Somehow nicer than Disease.

jO5 Wed 28-Nov-12 22:18:02

grin Disease! hmm shock

Ana Wed 28-Nov-12 22:27:12

Oh, it's a laugh a minute on Gransnet! grin

Nelliemoser Wed 28-Nov-12 23:09:20

No its a disorder! You have to get it right as the pedants are about in force tonight. You know what they are like, they will have you for breakfast if you get it wrong. wink

(See the laid/laying thread.)

annodomini Wed 28-Nov-12 23:28:54

No, Nelliem, I'm a vegetarian... grin

absentgrana Thu 29-Nov-12 08:45:31

Ooh Nelliemoser I don't think I could eat anyone with bad grammar. I'm sure that they would stick in my craw. wink

Oldgreymare Thu 29-Nov-12 09:35:01

Gracesmum.... and the flipchart! I used to lose the will to live when the flipchart was wheeled out!
Then a 'volunteer' was needed to'scribe'!
Hope the GN 'Awayday' was a jolly. smile

whenim64 Thu 29-Nov-12 10:25:31

ogm grin.....and then some poor s*d had to take the jumble of flip charts home and make sense of them, type them up and give them to staff, who promptly binned them and carried on dong what they'd been doing for the past 10 years! I'm not bitter, honest! grin
