Gransnet Grotto

Seems ages since we had a quiet corner bolt hole, so how about a new seasonal one ?smile
Just a little spot to come and visit from time to time and re-charge batteries. Nothing heavy or serious ever happens in here, it's a place for bantering and smiling.
If it's a Grotto, maybe a few twinkly lights over the entrance? Plenty of squishy sofas for relaxing. I've left a plate of mince pies on the table and a flask of hot chocolate, so help yourselves.
Does anyone have any nice scented candles?

I am glad someone's brought some mulled wine. Do not like milk so that counts out hot chocolate. However I will bring some of my Christmas biscuits, home made ginger biscuits with a cinnamon icing and little glittery bits.

Red PJs are in the tumble drier - sorry to disappoint. gracesmum - me too. When someone at CAB offered to make me a brew, I replied, 'It's OK, I've got a red bush'. Collapse of entire office. blush

Here is some Christmas cake - I made two so it would be really good if you'd all help me eat it. It has been well soaked in brandy, and the angels and snowflakes are edible. (Tried them myself...) oh yes, hot chocolate sounds lovely. And did someone mention plum wine?? Oohhhh, I feel all festive - where are the Christmas emoticons, GHQ?

gracesmum Tue 04-Dec-12 10:51:26

I have only just reached "C" in my MIddle Class ABC - and there, after bunting and bugaboo is Carluccio's. The ultimate MC lunch /brunch destination - so many buggies you'd think it was a creche! (That was us on Sunday morning too!)

kittylester Tue 04-Dec-12 10:47:52

Just remembered, we bought some Carluccio's (sp?) crackers at the weekend - with chocolates inside. DH won't notice if I bring those along will he?

kittylester Tue 04-Dec-12 10:38:55

What a thought gracesmum [ grin] Did gracesdad think they looked good?

gracesmum Tue 04-Dec-12 10:37:05

Can I share a little giggle faux pas I made some years ago? (It might be censored so read it quickly)
I decided it was time we had some outdoor lights so I toddled off to my favourite emporium and bought same which I draped artistically around the large Pyracantha by the front door.
Rang my best friend neighbour to chat, and in the course of that told her that I had put my outdoor lights up, when asked where I replied (and wish I hadn't)
"In my bush".
Apparently she had to be helped up from the floor and I have had to live with comments about walking funny ever since. blush

Notso you shamed me into cleaning the glass doors and shelves in the kitchen so I'd like a hot chocolate with everything please before I have to go out. Shall I pick up some Cherry Brandy? Just remembered, I've got some plum wine left over - that is quite warming I've found grin

merlotgran Tue 04-Dec-12 10:23:41

I'll be back later to thaw out with some hot chocolate. Chickens need their straw topping up to keep them toastie warm during these cold nights. Brrrrrr!!!

Ella46 Tue 04-Dec-12 10:18:03

I've just sneaked in for a quick hot choc and a rest on the squishy sofa!
Sick baby for second day, my son is ill too and my best friend, so, I don't feel too confident about avoiding the noro virus!

Don't worry though, I left it outside!

I've brought some great candles made of wax, but with batteries. They smell of vanilla and flicker just like church candles, so safe to leave. (From Costco!)

The chocolate is lovely but I'll have to go when dgd wakes!

annodomini Tue 04-Dec-12 10:07:55

Can I wear my red fleece PJs? Could be mistaken for Santa. Then again...

whenim64 Tue 04-Dec-12 10:07:29

I've got some spare tree lights here. Can someone put them on notso's tree, please? I'm just off out. Back later grin

Notsogrand Tue 04-Dec-12 09:58:20

Oh, how lovely it's looking! I have a spare tree Hunt , I'm going up in the loft within the next half hour, so I'll bring it with me.
I love virtual mulled wine glamma, even at this time of the morning smile It's totally guilt free!
Right, off to do some more spit-spotting.

Hunt Tue 04-Dec-12 09:53:24

Will there be a tree? I've made some cute decorations.

glammanana Tue 04-Dec-12 09:50:21

I've brought over a warm bowl of mulled wine for anyone needing a warm pick you up,and made a batch of shortbread if anyone feels peckish.Enjoy everyone.

whenim64 Tue 04-Dec-12 09:48:00

Don't start these mince pies yet - they've just come out of the oven. There's rather a lot of brandy in them. They'll be ready by about 10.30 to have with hot drinks. I'm just going shopping so please save me one smile

Sel Tue 04-Dec-12 09:42:36

Oooh, I like this! I haven't been with Gransnet all that long and am feeling that all the arguments and back stabbing aren't doing much for my state of mind - this sounds lovely..squishy sofas, marshmellows, carols - somebody will be bringing chestnuts no doubt. Trouble is I have a huge list of stuff to get through so I can't stay but I hope you lazy ladies have a lovely time. I'm [green] smile

Marelli Tue 04-Dec-12 09:38:19

Notso - you're not going to get a scented candle anywhere wink- but Butty's ones sound lovely and kitty's mulled wine will scent the atmosphere beautifully! Light the fire and fling another log on for me....I'll be there shortly.

NanaNel Tue 04-Dec-12 09:26:04

Here I am. Chocolate's great. Brought some crackers with me. Good gifts inside. Feel free to pull one. Bang may wake me up. I'm dozing on the sofa.

annodomini Tue 04-Dec-12 09:19:29

Lovely, notso. I'll leave this gloomy morning behind and enjoy the hot chocolate and good company - as soon as I finish my breakfast brew.

kittylester Tue 04-Dec-12 08:28:17

That entitles you to extra rations notso!!

Notsogrand Tue 04-Dec-12 08:19:39

Gentle carols on a continuous loop kitty. On the subject of rushing around, I've woken up in a spit-spotty mood today, which is unusual for me (I wouldn't dare fess up on the housework thread!) I just need to decide what to be spit-spotty about grin
Prety candles Butty, a very relaxing atmosphere.....

kittylester Tue 04-Dec-12 07:49:29

Lovely idea notso. I'll bring some marshmallows and whipped cream for the hot chocolate, as it's Christmas the calories will easily be expended with all the rushing round. Just got a new recipe for mulled wine, with lots of orange and cinnamon, I'll make a big pot of that too.

Can we have gentle carols being sung in the background?

Butty Tue 04-Dec-12 07:37:44

Notso - Ever true to form, you come up with just the right idea at just the right moment! Lovely.
Here are the candles - not scented - but will flicker just as beautifully.
I'll be popping in later for a mid-morning snack of when's mince pies. smile

whenim64 Tue 04-Dec-12 07:25:20

Lovely idea - thank you Ntoso. I'll pop back later with some mince pies. smile
