Gransnet Grotto

Seems ages since we had a quiet corner bolt hole, so how about a new seasonal one ?smile
Just a little spot to come and visit from time to time and re-charge batteries. Nothing heavy or serious ever happens in here, it's a place for bantering and smiling.
If it's a Grotto, maybe a few twinkly lights over the entrance? Plenty of squishy sofas for relaxing. I've left a plate of mince pies on the table and a flask of hot chocolate, so help yourselves.
Does anyone have any nice scented candles?

Never tried Baileys but be warned, there is a whole bottle of it in the cake and also a bottle of cherry brandy! That is before it was cooked, as soon as it came out the oven it was rum I sloshed in. Not allowed to drive even if you have just sniffed it so better settle down for a long stay.

grace I will sample your Baileys just for research you understand wink it will be useful if we can find out what shelf life it has.

gracesmum Fri 14-Dec-12 22:55:30

Reinforcements have arrived.............I went out to our garage before supper to see what we had in the wine rack and found an unopened litre bottle of BAILEYS! !!smilesmileI can only think I bought it for Christmas last year and somehow missed it. I can assure you there is no "best before "for Baileys, it tastes just as goodsmile Calloo callay!!

Re Christmas Radio Times - is that the one with The Snowman on the front?
Looking after little boys last Monday, 2 1/2 year-old wanted me to read a "magazine, Granny" to him. Yes, it was the Radio Times!
It took quite a lot of imagination and invention on Granny's part. smile

Ariadne Fri 14-Dec-12 17:40:46

Oh, all right then! You are a great provider, Moved. Thank you - have a wine or two. Oooh, it's nice here...

Movedalot Fri 14-Dec-12 17:33:14

Sorry Ariadne no chips but I could bring a really boozy cake? smile

Ariadne Fri 14-Dec-12 17:30:37

Chips.... sad

Ariadne Fri 14-Dec-12 17:23:23

Chips?

Notsogrand Fri 14-Dec-12 17:21:20

Lovely cheery post Movedalot! I'm feeling fine and dandy too smile Other friends and family all going down with a range of 'this time of year' bugs, but I tend to somehow duck and avoid them. (Unless it's nits. Don't even go there shock)

Sorry for anyone feeling run down....it always seems worse at this time of year when there's so much to do. We'll all budge up to make room for any other poorly peeps. Chest rub with Vicks anyone? grin

Ariadne Fri 14-Dec-12 17:20:49

Movedalot - drugs, booze, hugs, what more could we ask for? Oh yes - got any food? smile

I really, really fancy some chips. Anyone else? Where's the nearest chippie? I'll just finish this nice Sauvignon Blanc and think about it..

Nelliemoser Fri 14-Dec-12 17:14:51

I have just been fast asleep in the chair! The best thing to do on a cold dark day like today. I just want to be warm and cozy, stoke up the fire and put the kettle on. I am here for the night I can't be bothered to go out. Just wake me up when Christmas is over and the sun comes back.

Movedalot Fri 14-Dec-12 16:48:25

Hi everyone been away from the grotto for a few days as I have been too busy but I'm back with cake, chocolate and more brandy as you seem to have drunk it all.

Now who needs cheering up and what can I do for you? Paracetamol? Hug? more booze? I'm feeling fantastic and want you all to be so too. smile wine flowers

Smoluski Fri 14-Dec-12 16:27:51

kittylester Fri 14-Dec-12 16:13:59

I'm here Gally, do you mind that I'm wearing my jimjams and dressing gown? I feel pretty poorly so might just have a small one with you and then toddle off to bed.

Gally Fri 14-Dec-12 16:05:04

Looks like I'm on my ownsome here. It's wet, dark and miserable and I am just back from the dentist/hygienist. Better not tuck into anything that's left over, in order to keep my gnashers pristine so will just help myself to a small, liquid, alcoholic refreshment sooked through a straw while I wait for someone to join me wink

glassortwo Fri 14-Dec-12 06:50:14

notso when we were still at home the three of us would
fight over who read Christmas viewers first grin

Notsogrand Fri 14-Dec-12 06:40:12

Oh it's nice to come here and take a few deep breaths before the day kicks in. I hope your out of sorts gets sorted glass smile
I bought the Christmas Radio Times yesterday, which is always the sign that it wont be long! I mentioned this to the checkout lady at Waitrose, she said in their family the first viewing of the Christmas Coca Cola advert is the signal that it wont be long!
Better get the sprouts on!!!! grin grin grin

glassortwo Fri 14-Dec-12 06:22:58

Morning kitty just popped in for a little peace before it all starts again today, at least I am up at a more civilised hour this morning its.been 4,30 and 5 am the two mornings previous Dh has been all over the Country so early starts and late finishes. hmm feel a bit out of sorts but the peace and strong cup of tea will soon sort that out.

kittylester Fri 14-Dec-12 05:39:08

Gracesmum - great poem. I'll have George when you've done with him wink but not today, I'm too tired.

I'm in here early because DH has a cold. I have too but his is worse grin and it causes him to throw himself round the bed snorting and puffing. So, if no one minds, I'l; just snuggle up in that corner with a duvet and some hot chocolate with a big dollop of cream - bliss smile

Grannylin Thu 13-Dec-12 22:58:34

Let me in quick! Need a bit of relaxation.Just eaten 3 pieces of toast and marmite with a glass of vodka-yumgrin

Chris1603 Thu 13-Dec-12 22:51:57

I have got seasonal Christmas disorder. I am hiding out from writing Christmas cards. I brought some wine to share I think I'll linger here for a while. Why do 2 days take 2 months to sort?

Oldgreymare Thu 13-Dec-12 22:47:44

Back from Brussels and in need of some Christmas Spirit.... discovered a liking for Irish Coffee, just the thing to warm up body and soul after tramping the mean cobbles.
So lets have some now, I've got all the ingredients including the squirty cream.... here we go oh ho ho.....
Loved the poem gracesmum xx
