It's going to seem even longer than the run up to the Scottish referendum!

Lilygran Tue 04-Dec-12 12:58:25

I feel sorry for both of them. Most people would choose to wait a bit longer before making the pregnancy public and they no doubt did so to pre-empt any leaks. If people on Gransnet are already moaning about all the media stories for the next 30 weeks or so, what will it be like for them?

Good idea absent. Already sick of the coverage. Poor Kate, let her be sick in peace.

So I will move the subject on by joining Greatnan's gripe about the papers reporting the 'whole nation is gripped by baby fever' I get really, really, p****d off when broadcasters and the press talk about something and say 'we all', or 'everybody' or worst of all, 'all women' enjoy a good shop (no I dont), chocolate (no I dont) or a good chat to their friends (OK, count me in here, but every woman?).

What irritates me most is when broadcasters talking about the recession and the period before it and say things like 'We are all to blame, we were all living on credit, running up huge credit card bills, taking equity out of our houses to fund cars and holidays and not saving anything'. I know lots of people of all ages and incomes who did none of these things.

Rant over.

JessM I have started a separate Christmas thread with the Advent Calendar, which was very naughty of me!

glammanana Tue 04-Dec-12 09:47:04

Good idea to have all posts on the one thread we have a long way to go yet.smile

whenim64 Tue 04-Dec-12 09:44:21

I'm pleased they're having a baby but I don't want half hourly bulletins, especially when it's on TV, radio and in the papers. One Gransnet thread that I can avoid would be good, please smile

Greatnan Tue 04-Dec-12 09:39:58

I get annoyed when the papers tell me the whole nation is gripped by baby fever. No, it isn't! And how daft to have swarms of journalists waiting outside the hospital - what are they expecting
A healthy young woman is having a baby and is suffering, as many do, from severe morning sickness. Big deal.
Still, I suppose it diverts attention from the real issues of the day.

JessM Tue 04-Dec-12 09:36:20

grin
and yes, those of us who are not specially gripped by this would be so grateful. It would also make it easier for people to locate threads - which is not easy as search function not v powerful and thread naming is indisciplined to say the least shock.
I know it would be too much to ask that people use one of the existing xmas threads and do not start another half a dozen. hmm

Get's my vote!

annodomini Tue 04-Dec-12 09:32:39

Good idea, absent. I suggested that Kate's pregnancy should be confined to a single thread but that seems to have already gone out of the window.

absentgrana Tue 04-Dec-12 09:21:07

We now have three threads about the Duchess of Cambridge's pregnancy – and there are at least 28 weeks to go. I wonder if it might be sensible to have a whole forum entitled Royalty so that all those who wish to speculate about baby names, post pictures of Prince Harry doing something stupid, defend the Prince of Wales's egregious interference in politics, suggest that the Duke of Edinburgh has a single redeeming feature or make sycophantic comments about hard the queen works can do so and access the thoughts of like-minded posters easily and separately.
