Christmas is coming but I have no time to fatten geese right now

I have just accepted a rush job that has to be completed before Christmas. All the relevant details etc. will be with me before the end of the week, so I thought I had better do something about the state of my office.

i) I used to be well-behaved and deal with receipts and filing every week. Must sort out the three piles at the back of one desk if only to clear some space for reference books. Must be at least a three-month backlog.

ii) I should finish wrapping the various presents for people in the UK that are standing in line along one wall (the presents not the people), then put any leftover wrapping paper back in the cupboard where it came from. Oh yes, and the roll of brown paper I used for wrapping parcels for NZ, which is still lying on the floor although I posted the last packet on Tuesday.

iii) Put the paper bags in the recycling bag (goes out tomorrow) and the plastic bags in the cupboard for poo bags.

iv) I am writing cards (the ones for abroad have already gone). Now I am being well organised about this. It's like an assembly line – five piles of different cards and envelopes, sticky labels with out address on, eight books of second class stamps, the list of cards sent last year and my address book. So far I am about a quarter of the way through with cramp in my right hand and a growing bah humbug attitude towards life.

v) A thorough clean wouldn't go amiss.

vi) I can only do all this if punctuated by frequent short visits to Gransnet.

Good job you are moving to such a relaxed country!
I don't send cards and ask people not to send them to me, as I am always away from home for several weeks around Christmas. I send 'Happy holiday' greeting to close friends and family via Jacqui Lawson e-cards.
I am saving the rain forest (and some money - and cards of all kinds are not up to much in France).
I still get a religious card from one friend - she knows my feelings very well, so I don't take kindly to this rather unsubtle bit of proselytising!

I know exactly how you feel absent. Except for the paid work bit. It's starting to get to me now. hmm

Isn't it strange that Christmas is on the 25th December every year and yet it still catches me out.......
