I am going to be off line for almost a month as my sister has no internet connection. I would like to wish a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year to all my lovely friends on Gransnet. Your sympathy and support have helped me through a very sad year.
I have to leave shortly to drive to Switzerland, where Granjura and her OH are going to look after my car and take me to Geneva airport.
I wish I had time to send all of you a pm, but I send special good wishes to those of you who are, like me, denied contact with some of your family, and also to those of you who have lost people you loved and everyone who is worried about their health.
May the New Year bring peace and happiness to all of us.
xxxxxxxx

. When I first moved to the Pyrenees ten years ago, I had no experience of driving in mountains but I had to learn quickly. There was only one very steep road up to my village, with lots of hair pin bends and unfenced drops and if I met a logging lorry coming towards me I had to reverse - not my best skill in ideal conditions and really scary on ice and snow! I carry chains in my car, but because I have a little 4 x 4 I have not had to use them. They are a real pain to put on, and you have to remove them as soon as you get to a cleared bit of road.
