This thread title cries out for a comment.

But I can't think of one.

Perhaps Gransnet could run a competition...

We are at home this year so the dogs will be with us for the first time in ages. I don't feel guilty when they have to go into kennels though as there is a lady near us who has turned part of the downstairs of her house (it's very large) and her garden into doggy hotel accommodation. Each outdoor kennel is a chalet or wendy house design. They have their own TVs and radios, sofas, laundry baskets full of toys and little fenced in front gardens. The rooms in the house are for the smaller dogs. Our Millie and Peggy love the one that's done out in pink with Disney prints on the wall. As you can guess she is always fully booked.

I did ask if they had a room for me but I didn't fancy the food grin

Perhaps we shall all join kitty's dog..... Sounds very tempting now that I think about it

The more I think about it, kitty the more I think your dog might be getting a very good deal. Is there central heating at his kennels and would I be able to watch old black and white films while drinking Baileys?

kitty definitely the thing to do especially for the poor old dug who will be far happier cosied up in his kennel having a bit of peace. [woofwoof emoticon]

He's too senile for that Yoga grin

I do think that you're doing the right thing kitty - but can't help wondering what your dog is going to think when he comes home, has a sniff around and discovers what has been going on in his absence confused

I totally understand. Grace goes into kennels whenever there are going to be too many people around for her comfort and (maybe for safety), large family gatherings with tinies especially. I always feel dreadful about it, but she is perfectly content there, I can relax with tinies around and there are no accidents (in our case more of the stolen food variety) It doesn't help your conscience if that is the reaction. Your dog will have a lovely peaceful time, there will no doubt be leftovers to come home to and she won't be pestered by an over-enthusiastic puppy.
I'm right behind you!

I've posted before about our thirteen year old dog being unreliable in the continence sense as well as being mostly deaf and partly blind. Add to that the fact that there will be 13 of us on Christmas day, including two toddlers, and two children under six. Then include DD3's 4 month old puppy and it seems obvious that he is better off having a peaceful holiday.

So why, when we told the children, did they all look at us as if we had suggested eating kittens and puppies for Christmas lunch. confused
