Are you sure you didn't write this Barrow, and not John Betjeman? He seems to sum up what you are saying:

No barrow - if you decided to prune your list earlier then I think you should stick with that decision. It all gets out of hand, why send cards to people you know you'll never see again and probably not interested in what they are doing. If you were interested then they would have been on your list in the first place. Be brave

I am a sucker and would be posting out cards ASAP. With the mail service as it is maybe nobody would think about the lateness of receiving your card.

The only postage I pay for with the exception of two who are far flung is to The Local Scout Post and for 20p all is delivered locally and the funds go to the local Scout Hall and for their camping trip in the Spring.

I have sent e-cards to all those people I can and who I will not be seeing before Christmas (or after for that matter), with an explanation that I am donating the postage money to some local adults with learning disabilities who are finding it difficult to fund a couple of days away with a group of their friends (from various places in this area). This has been a regular sort of Jamboree for them for some time. They are hoping to hold coffee mornings or table top sales, so the money I would have used on potage I shall use to buy material or some such so that I can make something for their stalls.

kittylester oh how I agree, I had a card the other day via Moonpig where the name is printed, it just said Carol - I know 3 Carols how was I supposed to know which one sent it!

At least if you decide to send there's still time! The ones I hate are the ones that plop through the door on Christmas Eve - do they do it on purpose.

And, I hate the ones that just say a name like 'lots of love, John' - how am I supposed to know whether I've sent one to them or if I want to?

Trouble is it's a continual cycle. You decide not to send and then they send to you so you send, and then they have to send next year and so on! Afraid if I make a decision not to send any more I stick to it, in the hope that they don't send next year as I haven't sent this year IYSWIM ;)

I have been delaying but now I think I will send e-cards to the ones who have email addresses and tonight I will sort out the rest.

At 50p per second class stamp, that comes to £3, which would be better spent on chocolate.

They are all former clients of my DH's business and we always sent them cards in the past. It was very kind of them to think of me but I don't want to start sending cards to people I barely know!

I have sent beautiful ecards to everyone who is local, as it always seems barmy to give one to someone you see very regularly.

I should just go on the naughty list if I were you! - if these people really meant much to you, you would have had them on your list in the first place.
