One of those days

gracemum that is tough, so many all at once. Can you focus on the other ones with good news? I know its hard but if you can it will help.

gracesmum ((hug)) it is so sad to hear all that bad news in one go! I suppose, as we get older, we will hear more and more about our friends, and we can so easily empathise with them, yet do nothing.

This year I decide not to include a 'Christmas letter', they get a mixed press anyway. I was glad that I hadn't as it would have contained news of holidays and other good times.
This would have been in direct contrast with the news I received from an old friend and neighbour, she has had major surgery for ovarian cancer and her daughter a double mastectomy (mets in sternum and spine).
Altho' most cards have contained 'good' news, a fair proportion have not.

I think we may have said before..that Christmas is not always the joyfull time it is meant to be for such a lot of people.....for some it can be the worse time ever for various reasons and for some they will be glad when the festivities are done with...... take care gracesmum

gracesmum, and it always seems so much worse at Christmas-time to hear such sad news, doesn't it? It makes the petty fall-outs and niggles pale into infinity when we think about what others are having to go through. xx

gracesmum - you must be feeling very sad.

We've had a year like that and, I echo ga's post, whilst it's sad for the people suffering, and we suffer 'with' them, it seems such a relief that misfortune has passed us by, this time. Then the guilt kicks in!

Oh dear gracesmum, I am sorry.
When I get the sort of news that you've just had I feel a combination of sadness for my dear friends and also a bit of relief that it's not my turn to be suffering 'first hand' as it were.

My very good friend and cleaning lady came today. Her dear Mother died unexpectedly earlier this year, her daughter has left home to live with boy friend, her sister has left husband and moved away and when she came this morning she told me that her little dog had died. I felt so sad for her. She said 'this is my worst year ever'. Sometimes it does seem as if the sorrows are never ending. Do hope you have some cheery news soon, Gracesmum.

We were like that last Christmas. We lost three very good, close friends (including DH's best friend for forty years) last year and were so depressed at having to attend one funeral after another, and trying to support the people who are left behind. You feel so inadequate. Another close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer (but thank the Lord she is getting better), and a further one's marriage broke down. Hang in gracesmum; I know how you feel and I send you my kindest thoughts.

gracesmum what a terrible day for you. Bad news is always shocking, but for so many to come all at the same time and at this time of year, makes it even harder. Thinking of you and sending you a big ((((hug))))

Oh, gracesmum Much sympathy. No wonder you feel nervous about opening the Christmas mail. What a lot of sad news. So far, the ones I have received have had mainly good news - everyone in one piece, although several new joints.
