A new what-I-did-today thread

The only way it affects me is to make me be determined not to monopolise my children's lives and to let them bring up their children how they want to.
But to always be there when they need me.
We gave my mother a lot of help and company even when my own husband was ill and on dialysis she still insisted she came first.
I forsook all others and cleaved only unto him.
I still spent 2hours every evening with her at the expense of my own family. This was not enough!
I would point out I was also in full time work and had 2small children.

I think there are a few who would sympathise, jeni - but once they are gone it is hard (for me) not to feel some remorse. maybe just the fear of bad Karma - what goes around comes around? I know I had a raft of good reasons not to spend 7 hours driving up to Scotland every half term or school holiday as I was clearly expected to (notleast because I couldn;t always affordd it) but years on, the guilt niggles. What it has taught me is not to demand, not to expect, not to nag, moan or whinge and hope that the DDs enjoy seeing me or ringing me and don't need to fortify themselves with a stiff drink the way I used to.

My mother drove us mad. We then moved from Walsall to Bridtol.
Guess what! She followed us and bought a bungalow 0.5 miles from us

She then decided that us seeing her every day was not enough she was being neglected.
She moved up to be near my brother instead.
Boy, did he regret it

In my daughters bookcase one of the many worrying titles is"you're not going out wearing that are you?" I know I never said those words perhaps it showed in my face. She was so beautiful , still is but 40 and very stressful job. But I never said a thing .

When DH decided we would move house my mother said to me ' you are putting a millstone around that poor boy's neck' can't you be content with what you have ? I was living in a two bedroom cottage with a second baby on the way. I think the real reason was I was moving to the furthest part of town from where she lived and nearer to my MIL

A favourite of my Mum's was 'Why did you let them do THAT to you?' if I turned up newly coiffed!

I went to see my Mum today and she did it again!!

Just as I was leaving she thanked me effusively for all I've done for her then said 'And, next time you come, please try to look like the wife of a professional man'

Played my violin again this morning after 2 or 3 years of neglecting it. Easy duets with a friend, but it was fun. I also play concertina and recorders and keyboard, none of them with much skill and I get so frustrated at all my mistakes.

I've posted 2 letters (large envelopes so needed to go to P.O.)
I'm in danger of grinding to a complete halt.

Yes, well - I've often used the 'phone the mobile with the landline' trick, but this time not only was my mobile turned off, I think I left it in a cinema on Sunday evening. Got up to leave before the lights went up - serves me right for being impatient. I've been back to the cinema, even searched round where I was sitting, and they've got my landline number. What an idiot not to have made sure I had it. I'm comforted to learn that I'm not the only gransnetter to have lost a phone . . .

Ever since there was an [unfounded] health scare about deodorant I've used Forever Living Aloe Vera, although I use heavy duty Mitchum if I'm going out [which isn't very often]. I'm pretty allergic to most perfumed things.

I can't stand the smell of most deodorants, they all seem to me as a wearer overpoweringly pungent and would clash with any other perfume you might want to wear.

I use "Mum" unperfumed but that's not always easy to find as are many other unperfumed brands.

Got some in the kitchen; will check it out....

I like lavender. Wouldn't want to smell of patchouli. Had that once in an oil burner. It smelt of decay.

I also tend to lose my phone when the battery is flat, or its switched off, and no I do not know the number either, as its written down on the phone.
I will go now and write it on the calender, if I can find a pen and the phone.
I will also write down the number and keep it in my purse.

There is a piece of paper in my purse with the code T## #### not my writing and I have not a clue what it relates to.

Its probably the code to the secret swiss bank account where I keep my millions!

Well, I supposed I could be classed as an ageing (but not geriatric!) hippy, but the overriding scent is lavender - I can't discern the patchouli!

Strange combination, patchouli and lavender; aimed at geriatric hippies perhaps.....
