Made some bread, made some lentil soup, sawed, lopped and yanked a couple of dozen rhododendron branches off and shredded them, pulled a muscle in the process, divested self of wet muddy clothing including wool gloves topped by industrial strength rubber gloves, and the other paraphernalia of keeping warm and dry in Scotland in winter, showered, put a wash on, made coffee, sat down with feet up.

"Nufff d-d-day, I fink!" as DD used to say when she was two.

Still have to wash-up and make dinner but I'm slobbing until that cannot be put off any longer.

Budgie Blog cont. day 3 09:00hrs

Barry spent a lot of yesterday standing on top of Grahams cage. The two cages are now placed with open doors together and either bird could cross the threshold into the other birds cage.

At the moment both birds seem to be just waking up.
There are few tweets going on but they both seem to have gone all coy.

If this pet introduction agency pilot project goes okay I shall have to start a new business. grin

I am off to make my first marmelade. and will keep looking in to see what is going on.

Marelli thinking of you as you worry; hope things improve.

Oldgreymare Thu 24-Jan-13 17:38:29

Marelli hope SIL's BP returns to normal soon and that you can stop worrying.
Sounds rich coming from little old me who is anxious about an investigation!
The good news is that I had the pre-op checks today and I am one very healthy and fit old bird! *
Knowing that has cheered me up 'no-end'.
*I needed to be as I had to dig my car out of the Park and Ride bus park!

Busy day at CAB today - funny thing, when I get one 'relationship' case, two more come along, almost always. Still cold, but snow mostly gone. However, someone told me that heavy snow is forecast for tomorrow. shock

Butty Thu 24-Jan-13 16:33:58

Marelli - Sending my very best wishes to your sister-in-law, and to you. x

glassortwo Thu 24-Jan-13 15:49:31

marelli you cant settle can you when you are worrying like that, hope all is fine flowers

All we can see here is still snow snow and more snow, I am a little tired of it now, a little green and sunshine is what is needed now.

Marelli Thu 24-Jan-13 15:37:02

Thank you both. I'm sure she'll be fine, but she's smoked all her life, and had heart valve surgery a good few years ago. She's a hardy wee woman but we just can't settle today.

jeni Thu 24-Jan-13 15:29:05

Hope all goes well!

soop Thu 24-Jan-13 15:26:30

Marelli My very best wishes that all will be well. flowers

Marelli Thu 24-Jan-13 14:59:03

Was supposed to be visiting 85-year-old sister in law tonight in hosptial. She had surgery the other day to remove part of her bowel, and seemed to doing ok yesterday when we went to see her. Today her BP is hitting the roof and she's to get no visitors except her daughter tonight. Really very, very worried about her today.

soop Thu 24-Jan-13 14:48:02

I can visualise the scene, Ariadne. Not as sunny today. A good bit chillier, too. The sea is gunmetal grey. The islands are lurking beyond a thin veil of cloud.
Rory is fast asleep in his chosen chair. smile

Ariadne Thu 24-Jan-13 14:29:12

I have just been into town for Rotary lunch; parked my car on the quay - bright sunlight glinting on the water and wandered over the bridge. A day like this is a gift, and it truly lifts your spirits! sunshine

Tegan Thu 24-Jan-13 14:08:56

My budgie was called Twinkle smile. And I had a dog called Spot. And a cat called Fluff. We weren't very good with thinking up original names in those days sad. Mind you, every other dog in the area was called Rover.

Nelliemoser Thu 24-Jan-13 08:54:24

Tegan Same here I am afraid! Then when DDs second one died and she had left fot Uni, I got a pair and continued replacing partners as required.

Current update! They are both uncovered and are taking a lot more notice of each other than they did yesterday.

JessM Thu 24-Jan-13 07:47:57

they are such pretty birds.

grannyactivist Thu 24-Jan-13 00:22:23

When I was a little girl my mum had a budgie called Bluey, she loved that bird. envy

Tegan Thu 24-Jan-13 00:03:30

I'm feeling really bad that my budgies, when I was little were made to live on their own sad. I didn't realise they needed chums.

glassortwo Wed 23-Jan-13 23:34:54

nellie I hope Graham settles and makes a good friend for Barry. sunshine

Nelliemoser Wed 23-Jan-13 23:27:38

Budgie Blog. This is like Soop’s Rory saga.

After I posted about my budgie Daisy dying last week I have been doing some frantic homework to get another companion for Barry, who seems very sad and I not eating well. Yesterday a local pet shop gave me the number of a breeder and I went in the afternoon and returned with a new budgie.

It is a grey Budgie with lovely markings. In honour of his colour DH suggested the name Graham which I loved right away, but would never have thought of for a Budgie grin

There are now two large budgie cages and stands in my living room .The newest one where Barry and Daisy were living and the older cage my previous pair used. They need a bit of "space" to start with just to get used to a new environment and each other. Its always a risk that they might hate each other on sight.

No screeching or upsets yesterday. Graham is locked in his cage until he gets used to the house and has tried every possible way to escape.
Barry has been out and about a bit but is still very sad looking. They have been calling to each other a little but each is very wary.

This evening I put some millet on the top of Graham’s cage and Barry has been on there eating it. After this Barry moved closer to Graham on outside of G’s cage and all was very calm! They were both having a preening session on different sides of the cages. This is a very good sign and I think they will bond quite well.
While I am writing Barry is still flying around and calling and Graham is increasingly replying from under his cover.

With that, this daft Budgie fan is off to bed.

Now to switch off most of the lights and hope Barry goes back in his cage.

Night all.moon

Nice day Jess smile

On the subject of knife sharpening - DH has bought every variety of knife sharpening implement known to man with very little success. When I mentioned this to our friendly butcher he said that he would do them if I took them in. Felt slightly nervous driving round with a car full of potential weapons especially after he had honed them beautifully for us. grin
