Made some bread, made some lentil soup, sawed, lopped and yanked a couple of dozen rhododendron branches off and shredded them, pulled a muscle in the process, divested self of wet muddy clothing including wool gloves topped by industrial strength rubber gloves, and the other paraphernalia of keeping warm and dry in Scotland in winter, showered, put a wash on, made coffee, sat down with feet up.

"Nufff d-d-day, I fink!" as DD used to say when she was two.

Still have to wash-up and make dinner but I'm slobbing until that cannot be put off any longer.

Love to you baubles and get well soon flowers

Baubles flowers

After a lazy morning as usual, I've been to the cinema to see Quartet, which I quite enjoyed but not as much as Marigold Hotel.
Got home to find message from hospital, turns out I should have gone today for pre-op and tomorrow for small op to remove metal pins from my toe.
Never got a letter of notification, so it's all been postponed shock

Hopefully, it will be next week.

JessM Wed 02-Jan-13 17:58:29

Yes do look after yourselves poorly grans and don't go volunteering to look after GKds until you feel up to it!
G23 - must change the beds for new year? Is that a rule your mother invented or is it all your own work? grin
Early start as DH back to work and on the road by 6. I had got used to having him around and now he has disappeared again.
u3a officers catch up at my house in the morning - allowed us to pick up the threads before the first committee meeting of the year, next week. It also made me tidy downstairs, never a bad idea.
Went for my constitutional and felt good.
Chased MIL's doctor - I was a bit concerned no follow up since she nearly bled to death 3 weeks ago and Dr rang me back (yes accents are a problem, I'm sure he was not saying that they would check the iron ore in her blood!) but his helpful assistant chased up the missing consultant's letter, informed the anti-coag people what had happened and organised a blood test for haemoglobin to be done by district nurse. Good job i chased! Dr had no knowledge that anything had occurred.
Printed out stuff I have written for ebook on gut. Printer kindly printed everything x3. Though it looked a lot when I picked the pile up! Went to coffee shop and edited. Bit of a way to go yet. Nice carrot cake!

Get well soon b and h flowersAlso had to get out of the house as its tax return time and there seem to be accounts and bills on every table in the house and a very grumpy person lurking.Went for a lovely misty estuary walk with my friend and ended up in the pub for lunch- half of real ale and Jerusalem artichoke soup - think it will be the spare room for me tonight grin

Marelli Wed 02-Jan-13 18:34:24

baubles - like granny23, I thought you were over in Ireland for the festive season. You've had a really bad virus, by the sound of things - especially if you've been hallucinating etc - are you sure you should be back at work yet? [worried emoticon] flowers xx

Marelli Wed 02-Jan-13 18:37:32

[harrigran], you too, must take care. It's definitely not the time to be running about after wee ones. flowers

Said goodbye to DS, not so D DIL*, DGS and DGD who had been down for 5 days over the New Year.
Packed Christmas away (Undressed tree, took down cards etc) and went shopping for a few bits and bobs that will keep us going for a day or two.
Burnt a curry angry
Now catching up.... so a Happy New Year to one and all!
*DIL manages to drink between one and two bottles of wine per evening, am seriously worried, and that's not just because it's the festive season sad

JessM Wed 02-Jan-13 19:03:48

Goodness me that is a lot of wine for anyone to be downing OGM . My DIL has a friend like that. Not good as you say.
grannylin we had one of those days recently but it transpired that Taxman owed us money (rather than other way round, which was feared) so you never know grin

ginny Wed 02-Jan-13 19:24:45

Today, read the paper and did crossword. Had an unexpected visit from a friend, so, that's the morning gone. Changed all the beds. did ironing. Sorted a few cupboards. Saw the Nurse for bp. check. Called on a friend to give her a hug as her dad died on New years eve. Worried Dh as I had gone out half way through peeling the veg. for dinner and he got home early and thought I had gone on an emergency ! Home to cook toad in the hole for dinner. Some crafting planned for this evening.

Went with sister and BiL to visit cousin on the Wirral. Good lunch and they showed us their amazing pictures of the Galapagos and Patagonia. They always take holidays in exotic places. Came home via Waitrose; then made spiced parsnip soup for light evening meal. Yesterday had other cousin (from Florida via the Wirral) to lunch and long family gossip. Tomorrow, sister and BiL are off back to Scotland and I will start my recovery. grin

It is 5am for the UK and midnight here in Toronto. Had a busy day. Went down to the amazing market to buy grandkids a knitted jacket each. Lovely bright colours and appliqued with flowers, ducks and rabbits etc. Made in Peru. Also treated myself to an embroidered jacket of the type I have wanted for years, feeling very guilty about it, then up pops dear son to pay for it. Wow.

Had Hungarian knish and parogies for lunch with potato salad.
The food available here from all over the world is amazing. I could spend an absolute fortune. Thank goodness suitcase would be too heavy and also not allowed to bring various things back.

Leaving on Sunday to come back to blighty. Snowed here at Christmas for first time in 5 years so very happy.

After Hungarian lunch, I was taken out for Japanese dinner. VERY CRAZY restaurant. Shouting hello and goodbye every time door opens, singing happy birthday every ten minutes and bringing food so fast it was difficult to keep up. DiL had ordered about 14 dishes and although they were not huge it was definitely enough for me, especially after drinking beer in litres. Only one at that point!

Lovely walk home in snow being helped along by darling boy who I only see once every few years. He showed me some of the lovely Victorian houses he has been involved in restoring and modernising. They have London type prices here, it is amazing to think something which you can get for £150,000 in the north east of England would cost about £2 million here.

Butty Thu 03-Jan-13 07:52:08

It's good to read about your Canadian snowy Christmas, Rinky. smile

Love fresh parogies.

Bags Thu 03-Jan-13 08:07:34

I have relatives in Toronto so it's always nice to hear about the place. I'm glad you've had such a lovely time, rinky smile

Ella46 Thu 03-Jan-13 08:19:21

jeni Thu 03-Jan-13 11:40:48

Bought 4 hares! Very expensive, but I think they'll look nice on my hearth
Gorgeous day here again, not a cloud in the sky. A sea day.
My buggy decked in its green and red lights was much admired.
Love to you all, I'm back on Sunday and perhaps some kind person can tell me which threads I should look at!

nightowl Thu 03-Jan-13 12:06:19

jeni envy

My mind is boggling. Hares? First thought was, to eat? Pets? Stuffed? But in the hearth? Please put me out of my misery grin

glassortwo Thu 03-Jan-13 12:11:02

jeni good to hear from you, I am sure you will soon catch up grin
I am sat in the car on DH I Pad in Poulton Le Flyde as Dh doing a survey, having already been to St Anne's, do you think he might take me somewhere nice for lunch grin for keeping him company.

Granny23 Thu 03-Jan-13 12:13:35

Rinky and Jeni - I love to hear about your travels, allows a stay-at-home-for-Christmas-Gran (and very nice it was too) to also vicariously share more exciting and different ways of celebrating. Especially, pleased to be reminded of the wonderful market in Toronto as have been there and got the jacket, tiedye tunic and more smile

Bags Thu 03-Jan-13 12:21:44

I grew up in P-le-F, glass. Say hello to the stocks for me, and give my mum a wave as you pass! smile

Ana Thu 03-Jan-13 12:30:05

We've got meerkats on our hearth. We did have otters, but they were demoted to the garden...grin

grannyactivist Thu 03-Jan-13 12:40:55

Harri and Baubles grim isn't it? Hope you're both feeling better soon. flowers
Today my lovely mother in law has just left after calling with some very sad news; a friend's granddaughter died on Christmas Eve, aged five months. The suspected cause of death is SIDS. My pregnant daughter is very close to this family and was desperately sad when I passed the news on. sad

glassortwo Thu 03-Jan-13 12:42:15

Waved as I passed bags
