A new what-I-did-today thread

Nellie - have a lovely trip and put the op out of your mind for a few days. Some men find it hard to deal with illness and empathy is a step too far! It may not mean he does not care - just how he is.

Today I went for a short walk - this may seem like nothing but I am still on crutches and we live on a VERY steep hill. It is the first time I have done this for over 4 months. But I simply could not stay in - there was a hint of warmth in the air and the birds were singing. I bumped into a neighbour at the top of the lane and she insisted on chaperoning me back down the steep slope to my house - so a jolly chat and some kindly support, both of which went down very well indeed!

Sometimes husbands don't fnd it easy to be supportive because they a worried and just can't handle it this does happen with sometimes hr can't understand sometimes all I need is bug hug!

Nellie What you need is tender, loving care. We're all rooting for you. You shouldn't need to ask for consideration from your husband. Maybe he's a little nervous on your behalf. Sending you best wishes and hope the trip to Fuerto Ventura lifts your spirits. Have fun in the sun.

Domestic goddess morning! I have made: a boiling broonie; a "chuck and bung" chocolate cake; put a bolognese sauce in the slow cooker; made a vegetarian version of same; and cleaned up after myself. (Smallest GC coming on Monday, that's why I'm baking!)

Nellie, I have an inkling of what you are going through with OH's indifference. Wish there was something I could do or say. Perhaps there is? I hope you will feel a lot better when the offending adenoma is gone. The geology trip sounds like a great distraction and you'll come back from that feeling more positive. Keep talking to us - we're here for you. Let us know when you'll be fit to come along to a NW meet-up.

I don't have as much time as I'd like to keep up with this thread. I'm under pressure at work to increase profits and its beginning to wear me down.

Every right to be pissed off nellie. That is tough. I know you will go into brave mode. But it would be nicer to be looked after.
Holding my breath here, MIL is determined to have shower. I'm hovering. Showering is a bit of a climbing everest undertaking for her. And there has been a series of leg bleeds precipitated by showering. Minor op on the vein this week so fingers crossed. Last week the shower ended in a 999 call.

I've enjoyed reading this thread (not all 39 pages though) and catching up with everyone's coming and goings. It truly reads like 'life's rich tapestry' including turning it upside down and seeing the wonky stitches. to all.

Nellie, it's sad that you don't get a bit more support from OH. It's almost as if they are afraid to acknowledge that if there's something wrong with us, that less of us will be there for them. As Ella remarked, it can kill off another bit of love that you felt before.
We're here to blether to though, and hopefully that will help you.

Oh, Nellie how sad to have to go through that on your own. Is there no one more supportive to look after you? We will be here for you but that's not much practical help.

I used to find that every time OH did something hurtful, a small part of my love just died off, until there was nothing left in the end.
Why don't they realise?

Today I got confirmation of the appointment on March 14th for surgery on my offending parathroid adenoma. Usually benign but over grown and pumping out too much parathyroid hormone which has been sapping the calcium out of my bones, fogging up my brain and making me tired.

I am not looking forward to this. I have had various bits of me examined and poked at under a general anaesthetic before but this is something that needs fixing. I feel I am being a bit of wimp this time.

OH is totally useless at times like this. He just will not talk about it or ask any questions so his apparent lack of interest makes it hard for me to discuss anything like this at all. This has happened before
I will probably get a lift to hospital on the day and picked up the next day after an overnight stay.
I doubt if there will be a how are you, or what exactly are they doing etc. There will probably be complaints that that interferes with some U3A activity.

Next Saturday I am off with a group and not OH, to Fuerto Ventura for the Geology and a bit of sunshine This was prebooked and I am glad it did not have to be cancelled. Its a sort of respite break for me.
I am sure I won't be able to do my choir concert on the 23rd of March so the weekend before the surgery I am treating myself to a "Come and sing" Verdi Requiem day. So there Mr M

Today I took Theseus to see the Physio; he is now to walk with just a stick, no more crutches, and is so happy. He had an appt at 4.50 to have the remaining sutures removed, and DSiL took him. Now they have gone for a celebratory pint. I predict Thesues will be flat out by about 8.30!

He is insisting that he attends a conference in Birmingham next weekend. He really, really wants to go and see everyone, but I am not sure it's a good idea. However, he is anxious that I'm there too (well, who else will drive him there?!) but we will see. He will find the stick hard work once the euphoria wears off. Bless him.

NW meet-up, small but select number had long lunch and chat... once we had found the venue. I have to confess to having overshot the entrance to the premises and had to go back down the M60 to the next junction and come all the way back! Luckily not too far. Now we have to think of a venue for the next meeting.

I've just googled Anterior Posterior Ventral Suspension and watched excerpts of the surgery [I'm to have] on You Tube. It didn't scare me because I had the procedure nine years ago...however, I'm wondering when I shall be fit enough to visit our Wee Man.

twinkle toes... He's stretched full length on the mat just inside the door. The birds are hopping around and pecking seed within inches of him. They seem to have never feared him. Whenever his wifelet and kits call, the birds sound the alarm and scatter. The expression on Rory's face is positively serene.
