Alie, I was wondering where you were! Glad to see you back on line. I'm coming to Didcot next month but will PM you with the details. Hoping for
The Lebanon to be heavily bombed
Good Morning Tuesday 26th May 2026
Made some bread, made some lentil soup, sawed, lopped and yanked a couple of dozen rhododendron branches off and shredded them, pulled a muscle in the process, divested self of wet muddy clothing including wool gloves topped by industrial strength rubber gloves, and the other paraphernalia of keeping warm and dry in Scotland in winter, showered, put a wash on, made coffee, sat down with feet up.
"Nufff d-d-day, I fink!" as DD used to say when she was two.
Still have to wash-up and make dinner but I'm slobbing until that cannot be put off any longer.

I went to an Antiques Auction for the very first time ever.
I really enjoyed it from the minute I walked in. There were only a hand full of people but most things were sold. I loved it, when I came out I spotted an Antique shop and went in there but then missed my bus so called Son to pick me up.
I will go again and I do recommend it for an afternoon out.
Hi all - I am back on a new computer. Now fighting with it and Amazon about an inaccurate order!
Today I SHOPPED for the first time since the snow. And went to the library, and the chemist to order new pills. Have not been out for several days.
My sister near Chepstow is thoroughly snowed in.
Last week I joined a new local U3A group.
No guinea pigs, penty of hammy acting though! And a lot of dramatic music in case the viewer did not get the fact a body had just been discovered!
Trying to find something that will copy I looked at Pathfinders City Beneath the Sea. No guinea pig
and Jeff [the boy hero who I bet I had a crush on at the time] was called Peter. The Toymaker from Dr Who was in it. Strangely enough in PtoV the bad guy these days would be the good guy because he's trying to stop them getting back to Earth because he realises that, when it's know that Venus is habitable, we'll go there and ruin it [as well as wiping out the indiginous population]. Will now google Edgar Wallace Mysteries
. Can't have too much wobbly scenery in one day! [any guinea pigs?]
Yes Tegan, on behalf of CAB clients and it's quite clear that usually the right hand doesn't know what the left hand's doing. That is, if you can get through in the first place.
similar
tegan soundssiilar to the DVD set I got for Christmas:Edgar Wallace Mysteries.
They have been very amusing to watch!
Yes!

Have you ever tried to talk to the tax people on the phone
?
Darn it; something else that won't work. And I wanted to share with you my 'Pathfinders to Venus' programme that I have finally got on dvd after 50 years of wanting to see it again. All intrepid space explorers [complete with guinea pig
]wobbly scenery, overacting and microphones on view when they shouldn't be. Just about to watch the last episode
. A cross between Dr Who and Acorn Antiques. What's not to love.
Paid my 2011/12 tax today after a panic when my password/username would not let me log into the HMRC website
. To get a new one can take days..and 31st Jan coming up quickly!
Could not get through to helpline
so went back to try to log on again and saw, on the sidebar, a link to 'pay your tax'..clicked it and found I could pay without username and password..just needed 10 digit reference which I had..phew!
Afternoon of fun with DGD2 who popped in unexpectedly with her mum after nursery
Fed up watching the snow blast across the garden all day, it's been non-stop with full-on Easterly wind, so stuck indoors! Getting cabin fever, so about to break out the
Pottered about a bit making soup, fiddling around. Then came a phone call from the hospital, where DH is due for a hip replacement 7th Feb. My heart sank, because I was sure the op was going to be moved. And it was - to a week on Thursday!! He is so pleased, and so am I.
But worried too, of course, because that's what we do, isn't it?
All I have to do now is reacquaint myself with his Qashgai, because he'll never get into my little Streetka! Whinge, Whinge..
Struggled to my neighbour 4 doors down in incredible wind and sleet, got into her car and drove 150 yards to the golf club house where we sat in solitary state supping on soup and watching the storm over the Forth! Wind still blowing after 24 hours and still no snow although half a mile up the hill it is thick on the ground. Have battened down the hatches ready for a 2nd night of wind.
Got used to cooking on the wrong side of the kitchen. It feels a bit sort of inside out. The Rayburn decided to cut out so had to resort to the electric cooker, of which only the top oven works, to finish off the chicken. Probably good for me to be booted out of my comfort zone now and again
.
Rayburn man booked for tomorrow, weather permitting.
Today we drove to Bideford to meet up with one of my ex-students and her two little boys for whom we are surrogate grandparents. The drive was quite magical with the snow on the trees looking really pretty (but, thankfully, clear roads), the boys were delightful and their mum had gone to a great deal of trouble to prepare traditional Romanian food for us. It was a really lovely day.
nellie you could set a spreadsheet up with in comings and outgoings, have columns for your seperate items ie food, heat, fuel etc etc, and having running totals, you can customise it to your own needs.
I have spent most of the day trying to a do full financial reckoning after my first complete calendar year of retirement. Looking at what I have spent on the everyday stuff and then the big extras and holidays etc.
I have just about broken even on the year, but it took ages to get the figures copied right from the balances in my bank account and to do the right calculations. (as well as getting the right caculations correct.)
Does any one know of a simple inexpensive program to me help keep a closer eye on household accounts?
I am now off to lie down in a darkened room!
Thanks ariadne
There is nothing like one's own bed after a time away, is there? Hope you get there soon, jane!
Well celebgran I think we are entitled to idle days now and then
We are stranded in Staffordshire. Intended to come down Saturday, stay the night and go home today, having babysat for DD and DSil last night.
But heavy snow forecast for Friday, so came on Thursday. Then they asked if we could stay till Monday.
Now heavy snow forecast for tomorrow, so got to stay till Tuesday.... With being away over Christmas and also away last weekend will only have had 10 nights at home in the last 5 weeks.
