It's only18 degrees and the rads are belting it out. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. it's as though the boiler which is on continuously has suddenly changes itself to timer!
It's zero outside or so my pooter tells me and my heating usually copes with that.
In other words I'm thoroughly fed up! Have splitting headache.

I don't understand it. This am the boiler has miraculously restarted itself! And has kept it's pressure. I've cancelled corgi who couldn't have got here anyway with the snow. I'll try and get my nice local plumber later on this week to come and have a look at the system for me.
Gorging is an emergency plumbers organisation, you pay a monthly sum and they are supposed to give you 24 hour response. The response seems to be 'someone will call in the morning' they seem to have been taking lessons from gps!

Corgi is not a company it is a kind of quality scheme for gas fitters. So bit mystified what you are joined up to. A network of plumbers with a central call centre maybe?
Maybe you would be better off with British Gas as they have a big team and more likely to prioritise people who most need help.
If they cannot get your heating sorted very quickly I would recommend that you book into a hotel asap.
Ask the plumber just to "drain the system" so that there will be no bursts. Stop tap tightly closed and no water in system until it has thawed and things can be sorted. In fact after a night with the boiler out, this may be the wisest course of action in case anything has frozen over night.
Even better if it is a nice hotel that has had lots of cancellations this weekend and would welcome you with open arms.

Food - stop worrying about this non issue. If it goes in the bin, it goes in the bin. Sod it. You need to be looking after yourself.

Jeni - I hope you managed to get warm enough to sleep. The only time I ever miss my ex (fleetingly!) is if I have electrical or plumbing problems. You feel very alone when things go wrong, especially at night.

Nellie - I can well understand how attached you got to your budgie.

Cheelu - I hope you sort out your job problem - no point in taking on more than you can manage.

Faye - I will be in NZ in less than four weeks, but it is only about 22C in South Island, quite hot enough for me!

Yesterday, I just swept the snow off my car but I couldn't have a walk because the snow was whirling down and my glasses kept getting obscured.
Today it is bright, so I will take the chance to go down the valley to the supermarket and stock up.

Oh jeni I wish I was closer to you and I would send MrG around to sort it for you, if Corgi (or is it Gas Safe) dont contact you would Age UK have a number for someone local who could come and at least get some heat back on for you.

I think elegrans suggestions for the food is the way to go and it will be something heat the house and food to keep you going. The fruit will keep for a while in the fridge.

nellie I am so sorry to hear about Daisy

kitty having a dog in your life for 14 years will have left you wth some lovely memories, when you can look beyond the awful sadness.

jeni hope you get your heating sorted out today. We have a calor gas heater for days like today. Our house is big and draughty and we have found that using that at the bottom of the stairs heats the house through.

Just to add to the sadness on this thread, we took our dog to the vet's for the final time last night. He was almost 14, deaf, almost blind, arthritic and his quality of life was not good. The house is very 'still' without him.

Nothing's above mouse level, in my experience!

Tomorrow, Jeni cook the chicken (the oven will heat the kitchen), wrap it in foil, put it in a lidded container and store in on a high shelf in the garage if there is not room in the freezer (about mouse level) Make jam with the fruit - more heat from that. Make soup with the veg (more heat from that)

Wear your thermals and pile on the jumpers! Hotwater bottles under the jumpers and lots of hot drinks.

I suspect they won't be able to. It's going to be a major repiping of the house. Very expensive in this house. Plus a very cold and worrying night.
I have no idea where the leak could be. I have double ceilings so can't see if its an upstairs leak which would be in some ways the easiest.
Downstairs all the pipes are embedded in concrete and completely inaccessible.

Oh jeni - do you have any hotties/ or electric blanket? I would just take myself off to bed, cancel work tomorrow (it's probably going to be snowed off) and keep warm . If you desperately need a bath or a shower, what about the angel next door? Ours packed up (new!) 3 years ago on the one day the plumber was snowed up in his village about 6 miles from us and DH had to go to London for chemo. Bless the man(plumber) he eventually made it through the snow, a neighbour let him in and we came back to a warm house. Keeping fingers crossed for you

Well night for me now,
I've a fridge full of food and now the kids aren't coming because of the snow!
Things like, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, a organic corn fed, free range chicken, avocados and fresh veg!
What do I do with them? I can't eat it all. Help!

I think maybe I need to look for a male budgie for Betty. They certainly are engaging little creatures aren't they? DGS loves Betty - his favourite game is getting my OH to put his foot up to her cage (don't let her out when DGS is here) so she can peck his sock. All we hear is 'gaga, sock'. OH doesn't seem to enjoy it so much, can't think why

Nelliemoser Sorry to hear about Daisy, until a couple of years ago I have always had a budgie, it is so hard to lose them , if you have never owned one no one could understand how we get so attached to the little beauties, they all have such different characters too don't they? Our last one who we lost a couple of years ago, was a strange little soul, no matter how we coaxed him noway would he come out of his cage, but he loved to have our company, if you weren't talking to him, he would try to get your attention by all sorts of antics and acrobatics, he was so funny, my chair was close by to his cage and if he wanted a chat he would sit and throw his seed at me, until i'd give in and talk to him. After losing him we buried him in a corner in the garden and put some snowdrops on the top, and those snowdrops have been the best ones in the garden each year since, we can already see them pushing through to come again this year.
