Made some bread, made some lentil soup, sawed, lopped and yanked a couple of dozen rhododendron branches off and shredded them, pulled a muscle in the process, divested self of wet muddy clothing including wool gloves topped by industrial strength rubber gloves, and the other paraphernalia of keeping warm and dry in Scotland in winter, showered, put a wash on, made coffee, sat down with feet up.

"Nufff d-d-day, I fink!" as DD used to say when she was two.

Still have to wash-up and make dinner but I'm slobbing until that cannot be put off any longer.

soop Fri 08-Feb-13 12:52:39

I'm off for a wee treat this afternoon. Mr soop and I are to have our hair trimmed. Last time I went, was way back in the summer. We'll visit the lovely bakery and treat ourselves to a sticky fig slice. Wicked! wink

soop Fri 08-Feb-13 12:48:48

Gagagran It's true, Rory has his admirers. When our friend visited, he allowed her to stroke him. Long ago, when she first met him, he growled and hissed and spat. I love your description - "charity of doom". If only we could explain the pros and cons of what's in store on snipday to him. Second thoughts...he would simply fix us with his steely stare, and saunter away with his tail held high and his credentials intact. grin.

Gagagran Fri 08-Feb-13 12:35:53

Thanks Soop - hope Rory is still getting used to his chariot of doom? I love reading about him!

soop Fri 08-Feb-13 12:23:35

Gagagran Look after yourself. What you're going through, is grim. flowers

Also off to see the medics; bruise on my leg hasn't gone away after 3 weeks and it inflamed and a bit sore so think I might have phlebitis [I always get ill when I have time off work]. Maybe I'll get some time off next week with it smile. Every time it seems to be improving the dog runs into it or jumps on it. Just of to put a cold compress on it for a while. What fun.

Gagagran Fri 08-Feb-13 12:14:45

Rang the surgery at 8.29am and managed to get a Dr's appointment at 10.10am as I am "wheezing like a concertina" to quote the Doc. Had a bad night as fierce asthma kicked in so am now on steroids and antibiotics and really glad I went instead of my usual trick of struggling on.

Hope to get some sleep tonight and breathe easier - it's so tiring when you are gasping for breath.

soop Fri 08-Feb-13 12:08:00

Well done, OGM...I sent good-wish vibes to you, from Kintyre. Bless you. Did you need to stay over? I'd sooner dash off home ASAP for a welcome G&T.
Baubles Of course, you're right. I would need to live within an hour's drive of the hospital. The three hour journey home [with backside packed with dressing] could be interesting hmm. Hey ho! As Bags would say. One more hospital visit to cross off the list. Mr soop has his booked for the following week. I shall really miss him. Rory will keep me company. smile
sunflower Yes! Being creative with personal photos for a specific occasion is a lot of fun.
Galen I feel your frustration. How relieved you'll be when the machine is in working order. All those clean clothes flapping in the wind...and all that ironing to follow. wink
kitty...good friends are very precious. flowers
Granny23 Will you be looking for a special outfit for the wedding? I can sense your excitement.

sunflowersuffolk Fri 08-Feb-13 11:06:39

Today I have just been enjoying myself, making up a personalised Birthday card online with Moonpig for my 28 year old son in Australia. He has been over there for 4 years now, and we have managed to get out twice to see him. Anyway, I downloaded some of the old family pictures including the cats, and the card looks good. Quite a reasonable cost too, as they deliver it direct to him there.

Also I am TRYING today for the first time today to start the 5-2 diet, where you fast for 2 days (well actually you have 500 cals as late in the day as possible). I am getting tummy rumbles which I'm trying to ignore. I am usually a grazer so this isn't natural form me, but will keep busy and persevere!

Galen Thu 07-Feb-13 20:53:26

I'm cross! I've eventually managed to speak to the lg repair man about my washing machine which died on Sunday! They are deigning to come on the 15th February!
In the meantime the washing is mounting up. Angel would help but she's gone to France to baby sit while parents go skiing for a few days.
Funny, I thought ski holidays were what we were supposed to be having? confused

baubles Thu 07-Feb-13 20:19:02

Great news G23 a family wedding, how lovely smile

Soop it would be a long journey to make on the same day as surgery, you'll be more able for it the following day. Patience woman!! grin

I do hope all of you who have been unwell are soon on the mend flowers

My boiler is fixed after a very cold few days, yay!

Galen Thu 07-Feb-13 19:47:26

So glad soop!flowers

kittylester Thu 07-Feb-13 19:25:40

OGM really pleased to hear your news. You must be very relieved. wine

With Hats, I could be anything next week!!

Oldgreymare Thu 07-Feb-13 19:17:49

Soop smileThat's what it was, you were with me in spirit!!!!!
I had my little investigative op yesterday, and the news is good, nothing sinister but I join the ever increasing band of ladies who mention the dreaded 'A' word. blush
Great news Granny23.... wedding outfit for you too, I presume?
Gally and Anno flowers and sunshine
Kitty be thankful you were a fairy, my lovely neighbour had to be Daisy (wait for it).... the cow!

kittylester Thu 07-Feb-13 16:53:18

Granny23, that's lovely news for you all. flowers

Hoping all those ailing are better soon. Although the physical bit of norovirus cleared up quite quickly, I felt like 'death warmed over' for about 3 weeks after.

Yesterday I was a fairy queen and had to flit around DGD1's bedroom waving a lovely green magic wand. Thankfully, nobody saw me! grin

Today, I met two friends for lunch and, despite the fact that one of them is about to start treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma and her husband is about to start dialysis sad, a lovely gossipy, girly time was had. wine

Marelli Thu 07-Feb-13 16:11:50

Granny23, that's great news!
Hope all the poorly folk are feeling better now flowers. DH had to run to the bathroom early this morning too shock. Thought he was coming down with the dreaded lurgy, but he seems to have recovered now, so it couldn't have been that at all. hmm

soop Thu 07-Feb-13 12:42:14

Granny23 Marvellous news! grin

soop Thu 07-Feb-13 12:40:39

Ariadne "Happy to be home" Theseus, is lucky to have a first-class minder. A considerate partner, gentle exercise, and plenty of rest, work wonders...smile

Anno and Gally flowers

Yesterday, Rory spent the entire day alone in the house. When we returned, he was still asleep in his favourite chair. On three occasions he has visited the cat carrier [for the reward of a little diced chicken.] A week on Friday is hopefully to be snipday...the 24 mile drive to the vet should be a hootshock. Good thing is, he'll be returning home with us a few hours later.

I was at the pre-op assessment clinic in Glasgow yesterday. Pity is, I'm to stay in hospital overnight following next weeks trip to the theatre. I was hoping that I could go home once I'd recovered from the anaesthetic. Apparently I've the blood pressure of a twenty year old. Mr soop grinned when the nurse told him.

It's good to be back. I need to catch up with what's been happening.

Ana Thu 07-Feb-13 12:28:27

That's really good news, Granny23 smile I'm sure your GD will come round soon and drive everyone mad with her excitement!

Granny23 Thu 07-Feb-13 12:25:28

I am going to be a MOTHER-IN-LAW shock because Son-out-law proposed marriage to DD2 yesterday (her 40th birthday) and she said YES. Now DD2 has asked DD1 to marry her! This is not as odd as it sounds - DD1 is a part-time registrar smile.

Our 5yo Grandaughter is not 'over the moon' about this change in spite of the promise of being the bridesmaid in the world's fanciest 'princess' dress. She seems to feel that her status in a '3 equal partners' family is under threat, and that she will not be part of this special relationship between Mum and Dad. I expect she will soon come round as things are explained to her and she is included in all the decisions re venue, outfits, etc. DH is secretly anxious about the change too, but pleased to hear that DD will keep her own (ie her Dad's) surname. I still remember that his first reaction when she was born (we already had her big sister) was 'Oh No! that will be two weddings to pay for, two speeches to make' and I reassured him by predicting that if such an event did occur, he would lose his voice and I would deliver the speech on his behalf. I wonder if he will crack open the malt whisky that he has been saving for about 20 years for a 'special occasion'

Me? Well I AM 'over the moon' not come back down to earth yet. SIL to-be is one of my favourite people in the whole world and he obviously loves my DD and my DGD to bits. Looking forward to calling him 'Guidson'. grin

Ariadne Thu 07-Feb-13 10:19:38

Keeping an eye on Theseus today, as I did yesterday.. On Monday, newly home, he was in that "so happy to be home" euphoria and overdid his exercises. He has now admitted that he should have listened to me, and is gently exercising and resting frequently. I think I should get in in writing that I am right!

annodomini Thu 07-Feb-13 09:43:59

Getting better rapidly, thanks. Disappointment is that I meant to see AllieOxon but this kind of bug, unpleasant as it is for me, would be dangerous for her.

Ella46 Thu 07-Feb-13 09:16:34

Anno flowers it's not much fun is it?

Gally Thu 07-Feb-13 08:47:02

Ooh anno just like me last week. Just to cheer you up, it doesn't last - the diet I mean! All my good intentions have now gone to pot now I feel better. Oh well, tomorrow's another day. Hope you feel better soon flowers

Galen Thu 07-Feb-13 08:31:49

Annoflowers

I'm up early todayconfused 6.30am!

No reason, just a good nights sleep for once.
Fairly easy day today as we have training in the afternoon and they're giving us lunch!grin. A stale sandwich and a glass of juicesad

A bit unhappy as inspite of rigorous dieting I have put on 2lb. One of them on a 500cal day (help).

Well better get to work.

Grannylin Thu 07-Feb-13 08:14:40
