It occurred to me that there are parallels between having pen pals and posting on these forums - of course there are many differences! I had pen pals way back when I was still at school and wrote these polite little letters on blue lined Basildon Bond, usually no more than 2 pages. And then you waited until you received an equally polite letter back weeks, sometimes months later. Nowadays, on GN we have a scatter gun approach (rather than carefully selecting our hopefully likeminded pen pal from the pages of Jackie or Woman's Weekly) and here we are posting on everything from "vaginacology" to messing about in Lil's Bar. I tried to come up with a modern name that explains it. Any other ideas? smile

The computer got so worried about what I was writing, it developed a life of its own and posted! That should be 'cr*p stuff I used to write'. smile

LOLLLL for all of these grin. Did anyone else - or do you still have pen pals? I was so prissy, would love to read some of the cr*p

Anne58 Mon 14-Jan-13 17:31:03

Serious? ME ?? grin

Faye Mon 14-Jan-13 17:25:59

I did mean Forum. I don't think it was meant to be a serious thread phoenix. Why so serious?

jeni Mon 14-Jan-13 16:44:05

If you meant forum, then reminds me too much of Latin. Priscus met lucius in the forum.
Translate into all tenses!

Well then Forun Friends will have to be my choice. I can't help getting carried away sometimes

Anne58 Mon 14-Jan-13 16:14:58

I think that what Grannyknot is looking for is a phrase that is the sort of modern day equivalent of "pen friends" , Faye , rather than a phrase to describe G'net members.

For the males on GN phoenix Mumbling Men or what about Chattering Chaps. smile

Not sure whether or not I have posted this before, but I used to belong to a sewing group at church - we made banners, repaired kneelers, anything crafty which wanted doing. There was a page on the church website about us. One of the ladies called us the "Banner Babes " one day and the name stuck, so the page on the website was called that. Our webmaster used to like to go to the local library to check that the website was working ok and one day when she went down and typed in "Banner Babes" the library computer came up saying the site was banned. I think the Council obviously thought we were something else entirely!

But what about the chaps, you can't exclude them.

Snap!

Ana Mon 14-Jan-13 11:17:15

Hmmm...sounds a bit incontinence-related.

Anne58 Mon 14-Jan-13 11:16:37

On second thoughts no, some people might think it relates to a support group for the incontinent.

Anne58 Mon 14-Jan-13 11:15:43

Pad Pals?

Anne58 Mon 14-Jan-13 11:15:25

Finger friends sounds a bit suspect, doesn't it?

Ana Mon 14-Jan-13 11:14:40
