A good reasoned argument

Why is Switzerland out of the common market but its citizens allowed the privileges of EU citizens through our airports?

Are they?

Ireland will the issues ever be put to bed?

Which ones?

I think this is a great idea! Trouble is, jeni that most of the great philosophical debates seem to end up, or even start, with discussions of free will, fate and so on, which would inevitably lead us back into the usual two sided arguments. But no doubt someone will have a good idea. Just not me right now; maybe tomorrow..

Religion again. The Irish issue is ostensibly based on religious conflict, although it goes much deeper than that. (I taught in Londonderry in the 80s and learned a lot, very fast!)

There is always the old one of
'Is there such a thing as a just war' particularly in view of hindsight and the last few years.
I can't imagine we could do it like the old Oxbridge debates, but!
Come on folks, a little academic debate could be good for our aged brains!

Do you agree that if there was a world wide ban on arms trading and manufacture, many of the evils manifest in society would diminish greatly?

If so, how could it be enforced?

Alternatively:

Should prison be a punishment reserved for only the most heinous offences in a civilised society? If so, what other punishments should the state impose to indicate its displeasure and rehabilitate the offender?
