I have just been watching a pair of blackbirds trying to eat the fatballs in the feeder .
The male keeps trying to feed on the wing with no success. A humming bird he ain't.
The female lands on the window ledge. From here by stretching she can just reach the fatballs!
Does this tell us anything I wonder?wink

I am watching a mistle thrush( or might it be a song thrush I will have to check) giving a blackbird a good chase around the garden it wont let him anywhere need the feeder, the markings are beautiful think the snow is making them stand out. It was a robin chasing him yesterday so Mr Blackbird isnt having much luck smile

Which reminds me - I have to venture out into the garden and refill the bird feeders. I fear it's the squirrels that have depleted them. At one time there was just one squirrel at a time but now it seems to have found a friend, maybe a mate and they both treat me with utter disdain when I go out and shout at them.

Or maybe Mr Blackbird is just playing hard to get glass !

Living so close to the seaside we hardly get any nice birds in the garden sad because of those horrible Rats with Wings ! AKA Seagulls . Grrrrrrrrrr

Lovely image.

Hunkering down today. Can't see any birds.

Only a week or so ago some tits started exploring our birdbox. I wonder if the snow will put them off going ahead with the nest construction.

The female has realised there are pine nuts under the snow in the tray on the feeder. She's having a ball.
Perhaps male blackbirds are. AA challenged in the IQ departments?

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 11:59:46

AA? I typed a little!

Its like the Battle of Britain here the air display is very impressive. They are making a right racket between them!

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 12:05:14

Robins can be vicious little b-----s can't they. I remember one attacking my mother every time she dared to venture in its vicinity

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 12:10:38

Seagulls are terrifying. They should shoot them all.

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 12:10:51

Yes they should!

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 12:11:53

Big fat pigeons can clear our bird table in an instance.

Not advocating shooting those though. You have to draw a line somewhere.

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 12:14:01

Old git next door does, along with squirrels!angry

glassortwo Fri 18-Jan-13 13:47:58

They are mistle thrushes had a look, but now there are 3 of them scattering everything in sight big bully's.

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 14:07:47

Haven't seen a thrush for years.

glassortwo Fri 18-Jan-13 14:13:31

If they stayed still long enough I might get a picture.

glassortwo Fri 18-Jan-13 14:22:12

Bang its just clattered into the window, it will have a sore head. Its sat on the fence looking a bit dazed.

Nelliemoser Fri 18-Jan-13 14:47:23

jeni Are the pine nuts you are feeing the birds those very expensive ones you buy for pesto?

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 14:58:40

Yep, but they were out of date. Don't think blackbirds can readconfused can they?

shysal Fri 18-Jan-13 15:09:26

The 10 blackbirds here are bullying the fieldfare. They are after the berries on the pyrocantha hedge, only the side ones left, making life difficult as very thorny. Many other birds in my garden today, also poor red kites circling in vain.

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 15:21:26

Been a good day for bird watching if nothing else.
