I am sad to see crimson has gone. I always enjoyed your posts crimson and hope you return. flowers

nanaej Fri 18-Jan-13 20:54:03

I guess it was me that caused the upset for Crimson as I queried her use of 'the Arabs' but I made no accusation of racism. It was explained / put in the context of the horse racing fraternity and I did not pursue it in any way.

Sorry crimson if my comment made you decide to close your GN account.. I was not being unkind..just over sensitive. Don't leave on my account.

I did wonder why you started the "Three cheers" thread Sel - not detracting from cheelu I hasten to add, but it might have seemed that you were identifying one Gnetter at the expense of others and with implicit cticism. Personally, I could raise several hearty cheers for jeni who has been a wonderful support in my dealings with ATOS, Sook who shares in many of my DH health-related issues and sympathises unselfishly, (and both of them sharing my exerience of DHs with transplants) JessM who offers me coffee and points me towards interesting U3A talks, soop for her constant cheerfulness even in adversity, * elegran*, gally, em, anno Granny23* for their sensitivity and indulging my Scottish nostalgia....you see any of us could name so many, but it's like naming your favourite child!!..... IMHO singling out one person is invidious and deeply embarrassing for the person singled out. You never do it as a teacher unless you want that "poor" child to suffer behind the bike sheds at break!

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 20:40:07

Agreed, and nice to see you againsmile

Greatnan Fri 18-Jan-13 20:39:38

Sel, I totally refute any accusation that I have driven away new members. Perhaps you would let me know to which new members you refer? In fact, I almost always post a welcome to new members.
"I'm not accusing you, there are several." means that you are, in fact, accusing me of something - just one more vague allegation against me.
I think you will find that Cheelu and I have a very pleasant relationship.
The fact that I have always been very honest about my political and religious beliefs has resulted in sustained campaigns of vilification but I am surprised that you have allowed yourself to become part of it.

helshea Fri 18-Jan-13 20:35:13

Conflicting opinions are what always made gransnet so interesting... we are all different. Debate is good. Well said Absent. Like a good bag of sweets - a mixture of flavours, but something for everyone.

Sel Fri 18-Jan-13 20:32:39

absent yes, I don't deny the lighthearted ones..but references to colour choice and fluffy bunnies??

I am not left or right wing I'm just someone who's built a business and finds some of the left wing rhetoric hard to stomach when it comes down to economics. I feel at times a dose of reality is missing.

Hey ho..incidentally, welcome back smile

absent Fri 18-Jan-13 20:26:06

Sel I haven't looked but I'll go and read it all now so I have some idea what you are talking about.

By the way, I think you will find that that there have always been light-hearted topics as well as more serious, contentiious and demanding subjects discussed on Gransnet.

Incidentally, I could list 20 right wing/conservative politically astute Gransnetters without trying (probably more if I thought about it). I could do the same with left wing/socialist Gransnetters too. It only seems like a left-wing rally if your politics differ. It's like the BBC – those of a right persuasion think it's biased to the left and vice versa.

Sel Fri 18-Jan-13 20:19:11

absent yes, indeed and maybe that upsets the 'old guard'. In your absence, there have been some posters who again, might have upset the 'old guard' Those less articulate, those who wanted to discuss less heavyweight subjects but were a welcome addition IMO to Gransnet. When I first joined I felt I was, in parts, attending a left wing rally and God forbid if one posted otherwise. As a grown woman, it didn't sit well with me. I started the 'three cheers for cheelu' thread, as I'm sure you will have seen. Lots of very supportive posts were made, then, it all became, just a little 'superior' I'd like to think you know what I mean. It progressed to being even more nasty.

helshea Fri 18-Jan-13 20:18:24

I have been away a while - but have only read two threads and they have both left me wondering what the "heck" is going on with gransnet these days.. we were all friends when it first started and there was none of this childish sniping and criticising - I am amazed that this has happened. I think a few people need to either put up or shut up. If you can't be nice to people why even bother joining such a network... go and play with your toys!

absent Fri 18-Jan-13 20:04:42

Sel There are masses of new posters. Remember people post on all sorts of threads so if, for example, you don't look at the Monday weigh-in thread, Pets or Knitting, there are loads of people whose names you won't know. Gransnet has more than doubled in size in the last year or so. But, of course, there will always be those who are particularly vociferous and post frequently. I would suggest that among the newer posters, you are one of these.

Sel Fri 18-Jan-13 20:01:56

Kali you were on the same deleted thread I think. Hope you've got your PJs, brushed your teeth and had your story. It's bedtime! grin

Sel Fri 18-Jan-13 19:57:49

Greatnan as I'm sure you'll agree there are people on here that derive great pleasure from manipulation, innocently presently manipulation. I'm not accusing you, there are several. What worries me is when that manipulation hurts others. We've seen instances of that lately and sadly, sometimes, those people just withdraw from Gransnet. It's quite interesting when someone posts on an old thread, I read and think, how lovely, lots of new names, but then realise that no, the thread is a year or more old...why does no one new seem to appear? I know I've only been a member of Gransnet for a few months, but the major posters I read when I first joined, still dominate. If you drive away new blood, Gransnet will cease to exist.

Hello Crimson , this link is for you. I hope you will enjoy it.
I also hope you will come back to GN.
Purely for selfish reasons really since you are the only person who knows anything about nags....
Our equine expert. smile

Very much enjoy your posts. There was one recently which really made me smile. In this post your were singing the praises of the lovely county town Southwell in Notts.
In fact you said you adored the place.
However you forgot to mention Southwell Racecourse. grin grin

Keep well.

glassortwo Fri 18-Jan-13 19:22:04

shock

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 19:19:09

That "I like crimso" referred to a new name for her (as was being discussed further up/down the thread).

I have no feelings either way about crimson.

Ana Fri 18-Jan-13 19:05:50

merlot, the Liz Jones thread hasn't been deleted! (Yet...)

merlotgran Fri 18-Jan-13 18:59:36

Yes! And hopefully before the Grand National. grin

Greatnan Fri 18-Jan-13 18:57:53

Jingle, we all like Crimson and we want to see her back as soon as possible.

merlotgran Fri 18-Jan-13 18:56:36

Oh No! Ana You're going to get this thread deleted now. shock

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 18:51:55

I like crimso

Ana Fri 18-Jan-13 18:51:41

Kali, the 'agreement' is there for all to see in the infamous Liz Jones thread, before it deviated into horse racing. It was mutual.

Kali Fri 18-Jan-13 18:48:01

Ana it sounded as if you were being controlled. I'm glad that's not the case any more. greatnan when I tried to defend myself against 'concerted animosity' I was castigated as a 'whinger'.

Greatnan Fri 18-Jan-13 18:40:03

I feel very annoyed at being vilified for hijacking this thread when I had nothing to do with the digression. I simply replied to an attack. Whenever I try to defend myself against concerted animosity, I am accused of squabbling. Perhaps I should just let anybody say anything they like about me without any response.
I have no idea why Movedalot chose to make this unnecessary and unpleasant diversion but DO NOT BLAME ME! angry

Faye Fri 18-Jan-13 18:34:18

I like Scarlet, better leave claret in case glassortwo needs it. smile

absent Fri 18-Jan-13 18:32:21

She could be scarlet or vermillion or claret, but not maroon which is too dull.
