What do you sleep in?

... and don't say Chanel No 5, that's been done! What made me think about this, is SIL who always wears (granted, gorgeous) matching negligee sets with strappy nightie and sweeping gown - tripped on the latter at the top of the stairs, took a tumble and broke her foot. So she's got 'the look' right I guess but how comfortable is it to sleep in (apart from dangers of stepping on the darn thing).

Despite my best efforts and one embarrassing (when I think of it now) visit to the shop where everything is in red and black and covered in lots of lace (and purchase is still languishing in the drawer having been worn once or twice - it was just so uncomfortable, I always default to: comfy oversized T-shirt (don't like long sleeves they drive me mad; straps too twisty); must be cotton; got to reach mid-thigh - not too long or they corkscrew. Comfy knickers underneath - or not wink

What do other people sleep in?

Absolutely, just as norm and iron easily - as I'm sat in bed on my laptop I checked the pillowcases - Jasmine Silk is the make but I bought them from Amazon and they had all bedding. Totally different to satin.

Thanks I shall look for those!
I presume they wash easily?

Sel Fri 25-Jan-13 23:54:57

Jeni if that question was to me, Amazon. I just ordered a couple to try and do love them. Had them a few years and they wash beautifully. They're expensive but worth it. If you have trouble turning at night, the sheets would be lovely.

Sorry. Knickers in bed...........that's just urgh! (Says she who went to bed in only vest and knickers for the majority of her childhood.)

jeni Fri 25-Jan-13 23:49:01

Where from?

Sel Fri 25-Jan-13 23:44:46

I was thinking of cancelling my GN membership, then read this. How lovely. Personally I've always wondered how anyone can sleep in PJs. Always a long t shirt no knickers person myself...I remember seeing a Doris Day film where she got locked out of the house in the morning, probably Rock Hudson was inside, or maybe Cary Grant...and she has a beautiful, matching outfit, nightie and dressing gown as she runs around the grounds. That was a goal and I did have something similar that looked beautiful in a box but not with me in it. It's nightwear loaded with expectations and probably why it's always bought by men. Hmmmm. smile

I have silk pillowcases - I read they don't make wrinkles so ordered immediately. I love them.

Satin nighties! As I find it difficult to turn in bed and I have to turn every 2hours when the pain wakes me, I find satin makes it easier to turn.
I used to get them from M&S but they seem to have stopped doing them. Any ideas where I can get some more from as my newest one is 8 years old and showing it!

grannyactivist Fri 25-Jan-13 23:26:21

PJ's, but why, oh why do so many winter PJ's have scoop or vee necks? I would prefer a rolltop neck - as high as possible. I have TWO duvets on my bed and sometimes I'm still cold.
Once slept in silk sheets at a friends house - the most uncomfortable night's sleep ever!!

j07 Fri 25-Jan-13 23:18:25

nanpug I get perilously close to falling out of bed sometimes already, without the help of silk sheets! grin

Nelliemoser Fri 25-Jan-13 23:10:55

How come you guys stay warm in bed in the nuddies and I just go colder as I lie there even in my PJs? I even have to recharge the hot water bottle if I wake up in the early hours. I am surely not the only GNnr who goes cold.

Its not fair!

ginny Fri 25-Jan-13 22:54:12

Nothing.
Nighties are a no-no, they get all twisted up. I always keep pj's handy in case of visitors or emergencies.

nanapug Fri 25-Jan-13 22:45:03

I used to wear M&S silk nightees, but they stopped doing the (old fashioned) style I loved. I have big boobies, so can't wear the ones that have got "boobie containers". I now have to make do with their old lady cotton ones which I don't much like, as turning over in the silky ones was so much easier. Am seriously considering silk sheets for that reason. Has any one used them? Are they any good?

Grannyeggs Fri 25-Jan-13 22:23:43

Nothing. I always keep a nightie under the pillow when the Grandchildren are here in case of emergency dash into see them , don't want to scare them!

NfkDumpling Fri 25-Jan-13 22:18:16

Oh Elegran I wish - where can I get long sleeved, high necked, non see-through floor length glam night wear!

Ariadne Fri 25-Jan-13 21:58:02

Elegran grin

NfkDumpling Fri 25-Jan-13 21:55:24

We've only got the Tempur mattress, no sprung base - but we manage. It means I can sleep in the altogether, except at the moment when it's really cold when I dig out an old baggy t-shirt nightie or when we has visitors then it's jim jams. And I do take a hottie to bed to get my feet warm before the mattress warms up.

Elegran Fri 25-Jan-13 21:48:29

Glam nightwear is for putting on to be seen and admired, then taken off.

annodomini Fri 25-Jan-13 21:45:10

Judging by the 'sexy' black nightie - made of some kind of slippery fabric - that my ex bought for me, these garments are designed to appeal to men - not the women who are expected to sleep (or not to sleep?) in them.

Grannyknot Fri 25-Jan-13 21:37:01

So no one finds "glam nightwear" comfortable then!? Makes me wonder why there are shops full of them - and how they stay in business! Are most of the shoppers hopeful husbands and partners grin

gracesmum Fri 25-Jan-13 20:59:25

Nighties always used to finish up round my neck and strangling me so despite DH's attempts to buy me glam nightwear (Janet Reger) I wear PJ bottoms and a t shirt. Once I started going up to spend a night looking after DGS I added a fleecy jacket to the ensemble as 1) their house is cold and 2) I wanted to be able to see to DGS in the night and not scar him for life at the sight of too much granny! grin

celebgran Fri 25-Jan-13 20:45:56

agree I hate pyjamas not worn them since child, like pretty nighties, of which I had loads in drawer, but tend to stick to comfy favourites!! albeit pretty ones!! cotton in summer.

Grannyknot Fri 25-Jan-13 20:12:54

Re discussed before, not the MIL and the beanie, the 'what do you sleep in'. And that should be lack not lac.

Grannyknot Fri 25-Jan-13 20:12:20

My MIL often used to sleep with a beanie on. I didn't realise this had been discussed before, but between new members + lac of recall (mine), am enjoying this thread anyway. Can't believe how many people sleep starkers, I used to, living in the Southern Hemisphere.

baubles Fri 25-Jan-13 20:07:05

And I sleep in a cold room, always with an open window!

baubles Fri 25-Jan-13 20:05:48

Another naked sleeper here. Sleeping in anything feels weird and uncomfortable to me.
