Good news. The ladies only classes have stopped at my leisure centre.

Myself and a few other men have complained to our local leisure centre about classes which only ladies can use.
Our argument was they were not providing men only classes and if the ladies wanted ladies only classes without equivalent men only classes the ladies which use these classes should pay extra as it is a council leisure centre for everybody to use.
They have done a survey and found that none of the ladies going to these classes were bothered about men being in them.
As far as I am concerned any ladies who want ladies only classes should go to private gyms.
The membership fees are a lot higher than the local leisure centre but that is their problem.

ginny have you ever been in an art gallery and seen a lovely stone bench and sat on it, only to realise that it is an exhibit? I remember doing that once in Chicago blush
Or looking at something in the Tate Modern and thinking "Tut tut, this gallery is a mess! They haven't even taken the rubbish bag out." Only to realise that the bin bag is made of solid plastic and is, again, an exhibit. blush

I have as much idea of what you are talking about as I do when I read 'Franks' posts. grin

Just spluttered into my post-modern bucket of tea. grin

The problem is now whether to:
a/ join the other arty threads and play along in the interests of art
b/ join the other arty threads and blow their cover
c/ carry on ignoring them in the hope that they will complete their assignments for this module and go away. I believe the next module is more challenging - pitching an idea for a post-modern-conceptual app that people can download to their phones.

Not really a non contact sport when it is played competitively in the southern hemisphere jane. Very popular and seems to include a lot of shoving. And it is indeed played my men as well as women. I know a middle aged dad who plays in a mixed team at his local leisure centre.
But that aside, I realise that I have been slow. I have not understood what kind of thread this is. Light has dawned at last. I just had not realised that the post-modern-conceptual-installation-vibe had extended from video installation to a new medium - the forum thread. You start a thread in the post-modern-conceptual-installation-vibe tradition (sorry, did not mean to use a dirty word, realise tradition is anathema for the vibe.). Preferably on "virgin territory" in terms of forums, in the interests of originality. Forum members take it seriously and join in. Other forum members recognise the potential and contribute in their own post-modern-conceptual-installation-vibe way and the work develops.
I wonder how long before it can finally be submitted as the third module of the OP's MA in post-modern-conceptual-installation-art?
Am I right in thinking that the OP has blurted over a herbal tea in the student union that GN is the trending place to "create work" at the moment. It was pretty mean of those in the know not to PM me and give me the heads up.
Goes off in a huff to re-read thread and immerse self in art appreciation.

Frank I know men play netball sometimes. That's why I suggested it for you.
When I lived in Hongkong, I captained a team and we regularly played the husbands/boyfriends.
They were slow to realise it was a non-contact sport though.

Aqua zumba is good - no-one can see just what you're doing with your feet.

Hi suzied

Well I did do something but I think some of it was wrong today.

I always amazed in the Zumba class that there are some people who turn up and don't do anything just take up space.

HUNTERF Fri 15-Feb-13 18:52:09

Yes I did enjoy the Zumba class.
I have just got to learn the moves.

There can't be many men phoning up just to check which classes are lacking a man or two....grin

Riverwalk Fri 15-Feb-13 18:45:55

I'm sure they do.

HUNTERF Fri 15-Feb-13 18:42:17

When I have phoned the centre they do know who I am.

Hunter did you enjoy the Zumba class?

Ana Fri 15-Feb-13 18:40:14

I expect you're a legend in your own lifetime at that place, Frank! smile

gracesmum Fri 15-Feb-13 18:37:49

Frank they see you coming.

absent Fri 15-Feb-13 18:32:51

Yes, but if one of them is netball, they'll know you think you're too old for that one. If one of them doesn't currently have any men in the class, they'll know that's the one you're making a bee line for.

HUNTERF Fri 15-Feb-13 18:31:53

janeainsworth

I have just looked on the internet and men do play netball.

There are sometimes 4 classes starting at the same time.

Frank

absent Fri 15-Feb-13 18:26:51

Perhaps they just know which class is the next one.

HUNTERF Fri 15-Feb-13 18:20:13

I think the cashiers must be telepathic at my centre.
They know which class I am going to even if it is one I do not normally attend.
