DD3, who has about 5 weeks left to go before her second child is due, has decided that she would like this baby to be born as a Piscean (dreamy, compassionate, adaptable, accepting and imaginative) rather than an Arian (impatient, independent, courageous, short tempered and enthusiastic).

I think she has had a bad week with Bertie, a Capricorn (determined, wilful, practical, dominant and persevering). grin

So, as she drinks raspberry leaf tea, bounces on her gym ball, eats curry and goes for long walks (presumably not simultaneously!) do you agree that astrological signs can influence one's personality?

No

All I know is that I can spot a Cancerian (like me) at 20 paces smile.

Kitty whether your new grandchild is Pisces or Aries, according to Chinese Astrology, which is taken very seriously by the Chinese, your new grandchild will be a Snake, like my DS.
Read all about it here

You'll probably wish you hadn't grin

When we lived in Hongkong there was a fairly close-knit community of expat engineers to which we and most of our friends belonged.
One day it transpired that at least 4 of the engineers, including MrA were Taureans born in the Year of the Pig.
We (the wives/girlfriends) concluded that that explained their remarkable similarities in temperament and irritating characteristicsgrin

I take a certain pleasure when corned by an astrology bore at a social gathering in agreeing that I am whatever sign she (it's usually a she) ascribes to me. Then when she has related all my typical Cancerian or Aquarian or Piscean or whatever characteristics, I tell her my birth date with an air of complete innocence before heading off for another glass of wine.

All I know is, when I was about 14, my Mother had a dog who had strong likes and dislikes when it came to people. I listed all the people (friends and family) into star signs and there were definite differences. She loved Aquarians, Scorpios and Pisceans and hated Leos and Capricorns and Cancerians. It was fascinating. Coincidence? Who knows.....

ginny Fri 15-Feb-13 16:01:55

Not really. I seem to be a 'typical' cancerian but my FIL who has his birthday 3 days after mine is nothing like me in character. To take your two examples . My eldest DD is a Piscean. She is certainly compassionate, adaptive and imaginative but certainly not dreamy. Rather she is very down to earth and practical. My Dad was an Arian and a more patient, easy going person you could never have known.

ginny Fri 15-Feb-13 16:03:37

Nanapug, I'm glad I never met your Mums dog. We cancerians are very nice people you know. grin

AnneMaria Fri 15-Feb-13 16:06:01

I'm an Aries and perfectly happy with it.

nanapug Fri 15-Feb-13 16:08:41

Yes ginny, I agree, one of the Cancerians was my favourite Aunt, who was a lovely lady, but the dog didn't think so!!!

Why should our personality be decided by the position of a constellation at our birth? The individual stars are hundreds of light years from each other and from us. Their relationship with each other is a matter of the pattern they make in the sky. OK - astrology is bunkum.

LullyDully Fri 15-Feb-13 16:51:54

It is rubbish but I am a typical Pisces!!!! As is my old school friend.Interesting to see that women still use raspberry leaf tea, I took it through my pregnancies and it did ease labour. I took it on my mother's advice.

Mishap Fri 15-Feb-13 17:13:18

No I don't - both my OH and I are virgos and we are totally different: he is on the borderline of OCD and I am a slut! Somone we knew who believed in all this sidestepped this by saying there were 2 sorts of virgos!

Grannyknot Fri 15-Feb-13 17:48:57

mishap perhaps the person was right, I was told that Aries can be either 'leaping over the next fence' or be 'a tethered goat'. There are two sides to every personality, surely. Anyway even if it is all bunkum, sometimes it's just a bit of fun bunkum.

ginny I agree, we are. smile

jane I did wish I hadn't! grin

I think it is a total load of bo**ocks and follow it slavishly! I am a Pisces and forever torn in different directions, always seeing both sides of an argument and spend so often on the fence I have the spike marks on my bum. I also believe in that total bo**ocks of Chinese horoscope signs - my MIL was a Snake (artistic) and a talented artist, she went to Glasgow Art College in the early 30's - very unusual for a daughter of a prosperous Scottish farmer in her day, my Sis-in law (her younger daughter) also a Snake studied Graphic design and became a successful costume designer in the theatre, now head of Costume Realisation at Wimbledon Art College, DD2 (yes, also a Snake) is a successful Theatre Designer with productions all over the country, in Sweden, Germany and most excitingly, at the RSC in Stratford. The rest of us hardly know one end of a pencil from the other.

kitty grin

yogagran Fri 15-Feb-13 20:55:14

I never read "the stars" in magazines or newspapers but will admit to being a very typical Taurus

tattynan Mon 18-Feb-13 16:27:13

Try the horoscopes on Elle.co.uk magazine website for fun. I like the monthly horoscope for its lucky and yucky days section.

Nelliemoser Mon 18-Feb-13 22:29:24

It has to be a load of rubbish. It's probably more down to our expectations having read about what people from different star signs are "supposed" to be like and even unconciously looking for similarities.

Put your chicken entrails away and go to bed. grin
