I have joined Gransnet for one reason only...

If any of you are MN users, you may recognize my name.

I have come over to Gransnet to drum up support for my inspired campaign. It ties neatly into Let Girls Be Girls and Let Boys and Girls Have Toys (or whatever that one is) and Let Boys Have Clothes (not sure on that name either).

It is: Let Grans Be....something! Yeah, it needs work. grin

Last week I went to Eason, a major retailer, to buy a birthday card for my mother from my 3.9 year old. All of the Grandma, Nanny, Nan etc cards had tea pots or knitting or a combination thereof!

I don't know about the Grans here on Gransnet, but my son's Grandma spent 2 weeks on African safari recently and the year before that went to the Galapagos Islands to see the turtles. She doesn't knit, I am not even sure she likes tea all that much!

So who is with me?

First we need a slogan...

Cheeky madam! Obviously hasn't met grans like those on Gransnet!! Supergrans!!! grin

I think tee should have a stint on the naughty step, she had a warning, she continued so off she goes.

I'm an ageing Rock Chick granny. Follow my favourite band up and down the country, always in the front row - hugging the barrier. Running to the front to get with the atmosphere. I'm not really a cupcake, pink and baking grandma (I do like baking though) but love any cards as long as the GC have chosen them

Well, I think I'm glad Tee 2072 isn't my DD or DGD. She'd get short shrift from me for 'throwing her toys out of the pram'. What a cheeky madam !

Knit one, purl one, slip one, drop one, pass the dropped stitch over ....

Gransnetters under attack...shall we Scottish grans come together in song? After me...*Flower of Scotland*...sunshine

soop Fri 22-Feb-13 11:51:03

Elegran...if I could, I'd knit a banner. #bestleaveittobags grin

Elegran Fri 22-Feb-13 11:48:53

It achieved something then - solidarity of gransnetters under attack.

One reason (not the only?) for starting a war is to get the whole country united in seeing off invaders. Internal differences pale into insignificance, temporarily anyway.

Greatnan Fri 22-Feb-13 11:17:19

grin We saw her off !

Lilygran Fri 22-Feb-13 11:05:24

What a naughty temper!

soop Fri 22-Feb-13 11:04:25

Elegran...^not good manners^... well said. grin

Of course, looking at the argument from the other end of the telescope, we send cards as signs of affection and to give pleasure to the recipient. So if a granny likes cards with a picture of a rosy-cheeked, white-haired old dear in a rocking chair with a cat on her lap and a cup of tea and her knitting on the table beside her with a piece of doggerel such as:

My granny's very special,
And I'll tell you something true,
The world would be a better place
With more grannies just like you.

then why not suppress all you good taste instincts and buy that one? Just don't get your grannies muddled. grin

Ana Fri 22-Feb-13 10:48:21

Can you imagine the responses from Mumsnetters? grin

j08 Fri 22-Feb-13 10:44:12

I was about to post something like that absent. grin Unfortunate thread title or what?!!! hmm

absent Fri 22-Feb-13 10:41:57

reason only.

absent Fri 22-Feb-13 10:41:41

I bet there isn't a single granny who would dare post "I've joined Mumsnet for one rason only… on Mumsnet. shock

absent Fri 22-Feb-13 10:38:15

I still can't really see a problem. If you don't like schmaltzy cards with twee verses for granny, don't buy them. Meanwhile, grannies are perfectly capable of gradually teaching their grandchildren the difference between genuine affection and sentimental twaddle.

kittylester Fri 22-Feb-13 10:34:19

In my world PO means Post Office. confusedgrin

MiceElf Fri 22-Feb-13 10:32:56

Some lovely examples of Passive Aggressive here!

See the other thread

Elegran Fri 22-Feb-13 10:29:01

I thought it possibly meant Po-faced. she clearly has not read many threads before jumping in.

She's gone away now, probably to concentrate on tonguing and cheeking MN.

Ana Fri 22-Feb-13 10:28:56

My post wasn't to you, kittylester!

Butty Fri 22-Feb-13 10:25:32

What does PO mean?

Ana Fri 22-Feb-13 10:22:37

Shouldn't it be tongue-in-cheekness?

kittylester Fri 22-Feb-13 10:20:39

I buy good cards when I see them and then use them appropriately but hate 'aimed' cards unless they are sent 'tongue in cheek'.

Everyone knows that I keep a stock of cards and I quite often get panicking visitors asking if I have one suitable for something.

I suspect that tee is the one with a stereotypical view of grans who don't belong to her. Very patronising. sad

Elegran Fri 22-Feb-13 10:19:42

Tongue and cheekiness are amusing from a friend, or someone whose agenda you know. As a first post by a stranger, it is very like being accosted by a passerby and accused of going round with a long face, or being ugly or - heaven forbid - being somehow different .

Not good manners, Tee2072 dear, didn't your Mummy tell you that?
