My daughter has received a phone call and the person had been told I had passed away. The caller did suspect this was incorrect.
This is certainly not the case.
I must say if I am told somebody has passed away I try to contact somebody close to them to confirm it.
What is bothering me now is how many people are now under the impression I have passed away as I am sure the storey would have gone through a few people.
I am going to contact a few people I know in London to tell them this rumour is going around. I feel sure I will meet somebody at some point who will be under the impression I have passed away.

We are members of the animal world and we make very good grans. That's one of the reasons humans are so successful.

I do wish people wouldn't talk about the animals world as if we weren't part of it.

JessM Sun 24-Feb-13 14:31:17

oh well yes, my default assumption is that members will be female unless they indicate otherwise because the overwhelming majority are female (I suspect). But no reason why a man might not think:
It's called gransnet. Which members of the animal world make good grans... ?well its a choice between elephants and orcas I think. Wolves possibly.
No offence meant orca and you have every right to maintain a smokescreen around your gender identity if you wish. grin grin

Ah, a light bulb moment has just occurred.

BTW, jess, are all male orcas brilliant matriarchs as well? #teasing

Gally Sun 24-Feb-13 14:08:02

grin

Orca Sun 24-Feb-13 14:05:41

Matriarch would be assuming I'm female JessM!

JessM Sun 24-Feb-13 13:56:51

I do like your name orca did you choose it because orcas are such brilliant matriarchs?

Gally Sun 24-Feb-13 13:39:49

Ooooh, this is becoming exciting. ??first GN romance [heart emoticon]

Orca Sun 24-Feb-13 13:28:29

PS just so you know I'm a lot older than you I think.

Orca Sun 24-Feb-13 13:27:28

That's a date Frank. I'm going to be in the area over Easter I think. I know John Lewis and we could meet for a coffee in the little cafe there. How about I PM you nearer the time so we don't have all of GN there too? wink

Movedalot Sun 24-Feb-13 13:03:41

Will you wear a carnation of carry a copy of the FT? grin

Movedalot Sun 24-Feb-13 13:03:00

Plenty of parking in Solihull, John Lewis has a big car park.

Hi JessM

I am alive. I have been doing other things since yesterday and I am now going to meet a friend and have lunch.

Gransnet is turning into Blind Date wink!

HUNTERF Sun 24-Feb-13 12:12:27

Hi Orca

That would be ok.
I don't know Solihull town centre that well but I know John Lewis and could get there by train.
John Lewis is just a short walk from the station.
The other alternative is to meet somewhere where there is some parking a bit outside Solihull or even in Birmingham.
I think the Solihull trains come in to Snowhill and my trains come in to New St.
There are plenty of pubs between these stations.

glammanana Sun 24-Feb-13 11:51:24

Everything suddenly gone quiet ? grin

JessM Sun 24-Feb-13 08:12:02

That would be great orca and you could reassure us all that he is alive and not the figment of our imaginations, or the doppleganger of someone rumoured to be the twin of someone dead. grin

gracesmum Sat 23-Feb-13 19:19:39

You don't often get an offer as good as that, Frank! grin

Orca Sat 23-Feb-13 13:22:20

I'm visiting a friend in Solihull sometime soon, perhaps we could meet up Frank and then I can assure everyone you're real and alive?

absent Fri 22-Feb-13 17:19:02

Never a twin. The world could not cope with two. grin

HUNTERF Fri 22-Feb-13 17:15:36

Hi ginny / Orca

No doubt I will solve the mystery at some point.
I am just wondering how many people I will meet face to face in the future who will think I am a twin of Frank or they may think I am a ghost.

Frank

I can remember hearing one of my ex teachers had passed away once. The person was in London for the day and I thought the person was reliable as he was now a headmaster at a Croydon School but he was a pupil at the school I went to.
My mother in law who was the ex headmistress lost contact with him as he moved on to another school.
I went to school in Birmingham.
About 3 months later I saw this teacher who was supposed to have passed away and he could see I looked astonished.
He had heard from another source he was supposed to be dead.
It was another teacher who lived near him with the same name who had passed away.
I managed to contact the person who told me the teacher was dead but he told me he had been told by an ex pupil who was a doctor and he had no way of contacting him.
Oddly enough I met 3 ex pupils in London over the next few months and they told me this teacher had died. I did correct them but they could not contact the people who told them.
Oddly enough about 3 years later this teacher did pass away but I did check with his son before passing the information to anybody else.
