A quote from Irish writer - John McGahern

'The best of life is life lived quietly where nothing happens but our calm journey thru' the day, where change is imperceptible and the precious life is everything'. smile

An opportunity is never lost - somebody else will take it.

The only thing you hear from pigs are grunts. (I don't know why I love that, but I do.)

A lie is half way around the world before the truth has got it's boots on.

Put yourself on a pedestal and eventually it's you who will knock yourself off.

A narcissist only has one true friend, themself.

Don't get mad - get even

Do unto others as they would do unto you - only do it first

my favourite - Don't sweat the small stuff!

If a things worth doing it is worth doing badly. A great consolation for ham-fisted clumsies like me.

dottilind Fri 22-Feb-13 18:54:54

My motto for today.... if at first you dont succeed, give up and try tomorrow.wink

Smoluski Fri 22-Feb-13 18:27:56

And sometimes if in doubt do nothing, problems tend to sort themselves out.

Marelli Fri 22-Feb-13 17:27:57

You do have a point there, Bags. As I've got older, I've come to realise that lots of things can wait to be worried about or sorted. Often, things (or people) seem to sort themselves out and action doesn't have to be taken after all.

Bags Fri 22-Feb-13 17:19:52

I came across this one today and liked it: "Do what you know and let the rest go."

the idea is that when you're stuck in some way – can't make a decision, say – you do something that you know will be of use and let the problem thing lie for a while. When you go, or get, back to the problem, something will most likely have changed and the problem might be solvable.

My mum had a similar one. When someone asked her how she organised her time looking after five kids, she said: "The next most urgent thing is what I do next."
