Something I notice is that a new member will appear here and make loads of posts and then disappear.

I shouldn't worry about it flowerfriend People do all sots of funny things. It's not really important.

Some posters have a problem. they come, they ask for advice, they leave.
For all we know they could be doing the same on a whole list of sites.
Some leave and come back with another name.

flowerfriend Sun 24-Feb-13 21:21:01

gracesmum I have wondered about that.

gracesmum Sun 24-Feb-13 21:16:17

Do you have any specific names in mind, flowerfriend?
It may be that they have changed their name and are now posting under another one - so not gone at all.

absent Sun 24-Feb-13 21:14:46

Who knows? Perhaps they get bored.

Ana Sun 24-Feb-13 21:13:52

Oh! Sorry, absent, I've just realised your post wasn't directed to the OP...confused

flowerfriend Sun 24-Feb-13 21:09:51

I am referring to members who appear and start topics and comment on others and do so prolifically, and then disappear.

I am just curious.

Well no, not any particular thread. People do pop in and out on different subjects. I always get a particular pleasure when I recognise a name from the past suddenly posting again after a very long silence – and then probably not posting again for ages.

gracesmum Sun 24-Feb-13 20:48:47

Is this degenerating into a "thread about a thread"?? We all know what happens to them!

absent Sun 24-Feb-13 20:46:53

I think it is much more usual that a newcomer makes one or maybe two posts and then disappears. Maybe she is disappointed with the response – the posts are often in the AIBU forum – or, alternatively, is content with the response and advice given.

gracesmum Sun 24-Feb-13 20:44:35

No, I got that once I had looked back and realised who it was directed to!Hence the blush - call myself a linguist!!

Ana Sun 24-Feb-13 20:43:39

'Suspend or discontinue' to your heart's content.....hmm

gracesmum Forza = power; nonna = granny. Or were you querying something else all together? blush

gracesmum Sun 24-Feb-13 20:36:41

Sorry - being obtuse blush( having read back)

gracesmum Sun 24-Feb-13 20:34:20

confused ???

absent Sun 24-Feb-13 20:33:24

Hello again Grannypower. Intermit away to your heart's content. grin

gracesmum Sun 24-Feb-13 20:31:25

To be charitable, perhaps a person joins, tries a couple of threads and finds it is not for them? I wouldn't know how often a member pm'd other members though, would anybody?

Ana Sun 24-Feb-13 20:22:40

Yes - and the thread is resurrected again and again by someone new, with people adding their own advice and comments, apparently to no avail!

Anne58 Sun 24-Feb-13 20:16:20

One thing that does concern me somewhat is when a new member starts a post with a question, people take time to respond and perhaps suggest places to find help (where appropriate) or give their advice, and then the person who started the thread is never heard of again!

Anne58 Sun 24-Feb-13 20:14:00

I may be wrong flowerfriend but I think that CHEELU is no longer a member, and is unlikely to have her membership reinstated. But as I say, could be wrong.

Forzanonna Sun 24-Feb-13 19:45:31

Hi flowerfriend - I joined 2 or 3 weeks ago, posted and replied to a few things - then went back to work! I was on a week's break when I joined but now that I'm back at work time is less and this past week has been hectic!! Also started knitting for new arrival in April. I might be an intermittent contributor!! grin

flowerfriend Sun 24-Feb-13 19:37:17

I am thinking particularly of CHEELU, who seemed to be on here all the time and also PMd a lot of people. What has happened to her? But she is not the only one.
