Some years ago, for reasons known only to themselves, Bournemouth Council allowed a view to be spoilt by building an Imax right on Bournemouth Sea Front next to the pier. When my ex and I used to visit his mother, we always went via Bath Hill and down past the pier, this was so we could see the view of the sea and the Purbecks beyond. I have lived here now for nearly 30 years and still love the view. Then they took it away by building the ugliest building they could find. By they I mean our Council - local opinion of course is that palms have been greased.
This building actually appeared on a Channel 4 programme about hated buildings - it came in as number 2!
So now it's coming down - hooray - every day I watch the live web cam to see how much has gone - and have gone to see it in action. Quite a few people complained about the destruction, not because they like the building but because of the waste of money. They have a point, but most people are delighted to think that after over 10 years we get our view back - talking of waste of money the building was never used as an Imax or anything else for that matter. There was a bar there for a while but not for long - so just an ugly building.
Do you have a building in your area that you'd be delighted to watch being knocked down? If you go onto Bournemouth web site you can see what I mean.
