I got my daffodils yesterday as most of the family is Welsh.
They are opening just in time as 1 of them is visiting this afternoon.

P.S. Have I missed anything exciting?

Oldgreymare Sat 02-Mar-13 10:14:30

Thanks Jess, it was this or red wine! (just testing to see whether I could give something up for a while!) hmm

JessM Fri 01-Mar-13 20:31:50

missed you. YOu're not trying to give it up for Lent as well are you? I wonder how Petallus is doing going cold turkey.

Emerges to wish all Welshies, and the rest of the world too, a belated greeting on Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant.

Although I have lived in France for more than twelve years, I still feel truly welsh and never more than on St. David's Day. Oh, and when Wales do well at rugby!

harrigran Fri 01-Mar-13 17:02:21

If you go to pictures you will see the daffodil that Gransnet failed to give us.

Spinach with juice and oil sounds wonderful!

JessM Fri 01-Mar-13 14:30:59

That's why its a greek recipe not a welsh one. They also do a thing with beetroot and skordalia - a kind of garlicy olive oil and potato dip which is interesting but very garlicy. I substitute hummus - beetroot with lemon juice instead of vinegar. eat with hummus.
The character in My Big Fat Greek Wedding claimed that all good things originated in Greece - not entirely true but they do good veg dishes, which are not often offered to tourists. Spring greens is another one. Horta. Nearest i can manage is wilted spinach with lemon juice and olive oil. Bit of a theme going isnt there.

Galen Fri 01-Mar-13 14:17:21

Don't think the ancient welsh had lemons!

JessM Fri 01-Mar-13 13:36:50

not fair re mumsnet getting icons and we are not allowed! stamping of welsh foot and muttering about the Saes. grin
Oh of course it is a weekend off for the 6 nations. Just as well. But i do have some delicious leeks in the fridge.
Boil leeks slowly in very little water.
Allow to cool
Make a dressing with fresh lemon juice, salt, pepper, a little french mustard. Slosh onto the leeks and mix in. Leave to sit in fridge overnight.
Food of the gods. (I think it is a more Greek way of serving than Welsh)

Galen Fri 01-Mar-13 13:02:06

Had another email. They seem to think I'm on mumsnet! Really. I'm no infant!

Stansgran Fri 01-Mar-13 12:38:40

No

Galen Fri 01-Mar-13 12:33:26

Just had e mail from GNHQ to say emoticon is up for st David's day!
Can anyone see it?

Joan Fri 01-Mar-13 12:25:02

hewnche = hence: dyslexic fingers are to blame.

Joan Fri 01-Mar-13 12:23:57

I called my youngest lad David for two reasons. One is that he was born with the same colouring , black hair and dark brown eyes as his Welsh Grandma, hewnche St David: the other is because he was little and tough, shaking his fist at the Doc who delivered him,and scowling at all and sundry, a bit like the David of David and Goliath!

annodomini Fri 01-Mar-13 11:23:06

Relax Jess the six nations rugby isn't back until next weekend. But the European indoor athletics should be good.

Ana Fri 01-Mar-13 11:16:52

TMI Jess! grin

JessM Fri 01-Mar-13 11:09:59

Ah yes dydd Dewi Sant.
I shall celebrate by doing another half an hour on my learning Welsh course and watching the rugby this weekend.
OMG indoor athletics as well. Wall to wall sporting splendour. grin

Galen Fri 01-Mar-13 10:56:44

I asked GNHQ for a daffodil or a leek but nothingsad

annodomini Fri 01-Mar-13 10:24:42

Happy St David's Day to our Welsh friends. I'm admiring the daffs I bought in bud last weekend, all in full bloom now and lovely en masse. However, I think they are making me wheeze, so may have to be relegated to another room. sad

merlotgran Fri 01-Mar-13 10:23:30

And February is so OVER. Deep Joy. grin Now we just need some sunshine
