The conifers in the garden behind ours have at last been cut to a reasonable height. Also, the tatty old elder has been removed. The tree in the garden adjoing ours has also been pruned . I feel like I have been let out of prison.grin

A big cheer for you ginny. I am sure you will feel uplifted by this because at this time of year, with all the depressingly dull days, we need all the light we can get! I can remember what a difference it made when we had 2 conifers cut down at the front of the house.

Same effect noe that an enormous buddleia has been removed from the corner of our garden. It has been slowly encroaching forfifty years or so - was full grown when we moved in. When I was younger I kept it pruned to a reasonable height and spread, but a few years of benign neglect have encouraged it. Can now see the trellis on the wall behind it, which holds up the remains of a climbing rose. That will get well pruned and might just flourish.
