We threatened to take it away from him if he didn't stop or else report him to the authorities. His answer was "go ahead report me, they are hardly going to throw a 87 year old man in prison are they?"

Hmmmm well it all came to a head when the bloody thing fell on him at the traffic lights and he couldn't get out from underneath it !

2 anecdotes about shall we say older people being stopped by the police seem apposite here as it is possible that the police might have remarked on how you were driving, Frank
1) My elderly uncle who thank god gave up driving in his 80's was stopped for driving too slowly near his home in Scotland. When asked when he had last had a drink he replied that he thought it might have been VE Day.
2) my MIL, bless her, was involved in a minor shunt while staying with her daughter in Leeds and being interviewed afterwards was asked "Now madam, would you say you were driving erotic-like?"

Oh I don't know about that Absent the police might take it very seriously and begin to wonder why so many people are out to get poor Frank. Perhaps they might offer him so police protection or a new identity.

I can't see that there would be any point in bothering the police about this as whoever reported Frank as DUI could simply apologise and say that they were mistaken but genuinely believed that he was. The police really won't want to bother pursuing it.

Frank, why don't you go and talk to the police about all this. You are being harrassed. And now the perpetrators are wasting police time, which is a serious offence.

I don't understand why you don't try to do something about it.

Surely the club in Covent Garden is the only Garrick that people would refer to without specifying any further. I thought it was out of character for Frank to be a member and pay the annual fee.

If you are referring to David Garrick, he also had a splendid house on the Thames at Hampton, again with a plaque on the outside, drove past it yesterday. A snippet of information which is probably totally irrelevant to the main content of this thread!

The Garrick in Lichfield is a theatre. Try looking for it on the internet.
The last time I went to London was about 2 years ago by train on a discounted ticket.
I meet my friends from work outside London now.
None of us live there so it makes no sense to pay high London prices for meals etc.

I have not noticed the plaque on the Library but I will have a look the next time I take Andie for a walk there.

I am sure that the Garrick is a private members' club so I am puzzled as to how one of your tribe of persecutors managed to follow you in there. Mind you, it seems a long way for you to drive not to have a drink, but maybe you were in London already for some other reason.

I do not object to the police doing the breath test.
What I object to is the person who reported me and the wasting of the police time.
Obviously the police officers who stopped me had wasted their time because they had been looking for me.
The other issue is there may have been other police officers looking for me as well in police cars.
I don't know if the person said I was heading to Sutton Coldfield but they would have had to check 2 routes.
I know a drink driver is a high priority.
I know there are ANPR camera's about which they may have picked me up on but I am not sure if there are any between Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield.
They may have had a police car waiting near my home as well but as I was stopped about 4 miles from home it would have gone by the time I arrived.
This was almost as bad as making a hoax call to the ambulance or fire service.

Right then but that that does not stop them from doing their job does it ? how would you like it if a traffic accident happened and they just thought "oh its obvious this person has not been drinking" and not test them,my brother is of the opinion that he caught more over the limit drivers who "looked normal" than those who drove eratically.
