Another wintery weekend - antidotes needed

Winter seems to be intent on breaking records. Here in the home counties it is sleeting and a brisk easterly wind is howling around the house. The forecast for the weekend is more of the same. And some of you are getting proper blizzards and floods! The films in the cinema appear to be truly dreadful and the Six Nations has finished, albeit on a high for us Welsh.
Suggestions please for surviving yet another weekend of winter. A really funny film to hire maybe? Indoor activities anyone?
I'm going to start by wrapping myself in a blanket and doing some reading.
If you want to watch something on iplayer I recommend this:
www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01r7bpt/Storyville_20122013_Surviving_the_Tsunami_My_Atomic_Aunt/ (not funny, but thought provoking and it is about a middle aged woman!)

Snuggle under duvet and stay there!

Candy Crush as per the other thread.
This is what I did last week.
Scrabble, jigsaws, Gransnet, download a Laurie Graham (or two) on Kindle, haul up firewood. Eat warming stews from ingredients in bottom of freezer, visit elderly neighbours, bake bread, tidy cupboards.
Go completely stir crazy by Day 3.

I've just ordered a mini kettle for my bedroom. My oh and I always had coffee in bed, but since he died I don't bother.

Jess You have a lot of clearing out to do....... focus! grin

JessM Fri 22-Mar-13 18:10:11

Thanks for the reminder. I am working on it. And yes, bad weather is an ideal opportunity to get the augean stables cleared out
Baking hot cross buns maybe?

Supposed to be at theatre tomorrow so as long as that happens we'll be cheered up by Alan Ayckbourne. Today it was 2 Sherlock DVDs, home made scones and having the fire on!

I think snuggle down in front of the fire with a good book and my dogs or watch a DVD with DH, hot coffee and good food. Housework can wait, when I see snow I just want to hibernate and get cheesy. grin

Very happy in front of the wood burner with Gransnet.

Also very happy not to be living in a big city. Big cities during bad weather =
depressing.

I am so dependent on gas for heating and hot water that rumours of a gas shortage have got me slightly apprehensive. I may have to go out and buy an electric heater, but aren't a lot of our electricity stations gas powered nowadays?

Butty Fri 22-Mar-13 19:09:00

Hercules had to do it in just a day, Jess - no time for baking hot-cross-bunnies. wink

Orca Fri 22-Mar-13 19:22:28

I'm supposed to be flying into Birmingham this weekend!

JessM Fri 22-Mar-13 19:26:23

You are a slave driver butty. The bread maker will do most of the work.
But yes - I will go out box hunting tomorrow morning and lash into the book packing. They are pretty well pruned.

Nothing much planned for this weekend - senior GD has finished her dissertation and is now living it up in Florida - envy. Next weekend I'm spending Easter in Sandhurst with DS1 and family and hope this weather will change before that. Meanwhile I must get round to editing our U3A creative writing for a slim volume we are preparing for sale to our fellow members. So I suppose that's my job for the weekend, when I can detach myself from my duvet.

Decided to do something towards a holiday and bought a holiday bag, one that is light, can be worn across the body (now trendy again and not 'old lady' at all) and will hold train tickets, passport, spare knickers ............etc.
Feel I can now face a gloomy weekend!

Galen Fri 22-Mar-13 22:41:25

Booked the excursions on my next cruise. Have booked one to the blue lagoon in Ireland. Seemed appropiate!

Galen Fri 22-Mar-13 22:42:13

Iceland not Ireland!

Ana Fri 22-Mar-13 22:45:04

grin

Gally Fri 22-Mar-13 23:09:14

Oh dear, I don't like the sound of all this 'weather'. Due home in 14 days and was hoping Spring might have arrived by then. It will be hard to descend from 28+ to 0 degrees; maybe I should extend my visit! confused
Hope you are all managing to keep warm and occupied......

Galen Fri 22-Mar-13 23:12:08

Do you want me to meet you at airport with a hotty, shawls and a fur coat?

Gally Fri 22-Mar-13 23:37:51

Thanks for the offer Galen but only if you can make it to Glasgow! grin

Galen Fri 22-Mar-13 23:50:03

To save you from freezing Gally ?
hmm
Can I think on it?
