It should be called Grandparentsnet.

glammanana Sun 24-Mar-13 12:05:02

Ana ^ I read the post wrong blush I did mention somewhere else it was going to be a long day wink

Elegran Sun 24-Mar-13 12:01:35

For NOW read NOT - completely spoilt the meaning there. blush

Elegran Sun 24-Mar-13 12:00:35

Apart from it now being as easy to say or type, a lot of work, time, effort, and even Money has been put into developing and and promoting Gransnet over the almost two years of its existence. To change the name after all that would be like renaming Peterborough to Johnandmarytown. No-one would know what you were talking about.

For Johnandmarytown every roadmap and road sign would have to changed. If the name of Gransnet were changed, every reference in every newspaper, magazine, news bulletin, website, other people's websites, Facebook, Twitter, you name it, would have to be changed.

The time and cost would probably bankrupt the organisation, and send GNHQ to the cupcake and wine fulltime.

Then they would have to start from scratch promoting a new name.

Nothing wrong with Gransnet anyway. Grandads are as welcome as Grandmas. The Gran part is unisex.

harrigran Sun 24-Mar-13 11:33:25

Oh FFS, now harri is swearing and she never uses that kind of language. have a long walk Frank

gracesmum Sun 24-Mar-13 11:27:26

I do like JessM's suggestions, but Grandparents'net (with the apostrophe in the right place) isn't all that catchy. Sorry, Frank - must try harder.

grumppa Sun 24-Mar-13 11:16:17

As a straight derivative of 'Mumsnet', 'Gransnet' has a lot going for it. 'Gran' has a flavour of grandmothers rather than grandfathers, but so what? It's snappy, and conveys the flavour of the site more effectively than something more ponderous.

My impression is that the vast majority of Gransnet posters are women, and I suspect that a similar net dominated by men would be pretty tedious - can't think who I have in mind here.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Ana Sun 24-Mar-13 10:55:23

True, absent, just wondering. Having looked at the Mumsnet page it does say it's for parents, not just mums.

JessM Sun 24-Mar-13 10:52:17

Hard to tell on mumsnet with their highly colourful taste in forum names. What would yours be?
Something like postmenopausalhagfromhell or notoverthefffinghilljustyet or whythefffamistillgettingfffinghotflushesafterallthesefffingyears would fit in with the MN zeitgeist quite nicely? grin

absent Sun 24-Mar-13 10:51:32

Ana It may not always apparent that whether a member is a man or a woman. This is also true of Gransnet.

Ana Sun 24-Mar-13 10:49:55

I just thought someone who's a member of Mumsnet as well might know, as the name does imply 'women only' whereas Gransnet is supposed to be for either sex, and indeed not only grandparents. I'll have a look at the Mumsnet home page.

absent Sun 24-Mar-13 10:46:23

Ana Probably not on the threads about epidurals, piles in pregancy, breastfeeding and the frequency of male farting at night – but you never know.

Ana Sun 24-Mar-13 10:36:02

glamma, I know that! I was asking about Mumsnet smile

glammanana Sun 24-Mar-13 10:34:49

Ana we did at the start of Gransnet have some regular Grandpa's posting and we had a good relationship with them but over the last few month's I have not seen them,we do still have quite a few regulars though and their input is valuable.

Forzanonna Sun 24-Mar-13 10:30:34

Agree annodomini

Ana Sun 24-Mar-13 10:30:30

Out of interest, do any men post on Mumsnet?

Ella46 Sun 24-Mar-13 10:28:28

It's more like Franksnet!

He's definitely a virus grin

glammanana Sun 24-Mar-13 10:22:55

Well put annodomini my thought's exactly.

annodomini Sun 24-Mar-13 10:20:07

Well, Gransnet rolls off the tongue nicely; grandparentsnet certainly doesn't. How would Mumsnet react to being re-titled parentsnet?

HUNTERF Sun 24-Mar-13 10:17:28

Got to go and wash up now and have a little walk so Andie and myself can decide if it is ok to walk to my daughters house.
