Has anyone heard about triangle flapjacks being dangerous weapons?

It is a ridiculous situation... am not sure of all details but did the parent of the 'nearly lost my eye to a triangular flying flapjack' child threaten legal action? Heads sometimes respond with a bit a of a knee jerk to things like that!

If my parents found out I was involved in a food fight i think parents would have been angry with me for being silly & not angry with school.

I believe members of a certain elite club at an elite university see food throwing as an essential entertainment... maybe the kids were trying to show they could manage life at university??

I heard it on the news this evening and it was very hard for the Newsreader to keep a straight face

absent, you're quite right to say that this has nothing to do with the very worthy, and indeed essential, Health and Safety people - reading the news item makes that clear - but with some jobsworth who is incapable of seeing that teaching children not to throw food at each other might be a more effective way of dealing with the problem. I believe that the HSE have a helpline you can use if your freedom to bake triangular flapjacks (just to take a random example) is threatened on the grounds of elfansafety. They will then assure you that what you have been told is rubbish and that you have their blessing to put as many points on your flapjacks as you think appropriate.

Could they stop the children from using them as missiles?

They should insist that all flapjacks should be round, except then they will be used as Frisbees. Do you think that if thrown well with a good spin they could decapitate some poor unfortunate child, but where do we stop? Ban beefburgers for the same above reason, not to mention cheese triangles and slices of pizza. If a potato croquette is thrown and a child has there mouth open, it could go straight down their throat and suffocate them

It's difficult to isolate myself from the basis of the subject (dangerous low flying triangle flapjacks) without sniggering. However, where will all this banning/barring end? Elfen safety aside, surely being hit with a flying object of any description at school goes with the whole process of growing up? (in my school days it would have been an ink pellet flicked across the room, or the occasional book/chair being chucked by a teacher across the classroom at an unruly pupil). I wonder what circumstances forced having to impose the triangle ban? A safety shield for teachers, fearing repercussions from parents? or concern that if food fights continue they might develop into lunch-time bloodbaths - flapjacks today, lunch boxes tomorrow?
I'd like to know what the flapjack cooks think about it all?

This is not Health and Safety which is important, even vital to the well-being of industrial workers, builders, farmers and members of other dangerous occupations. They are concerned with preventing avoidable accidents with heavy machinery, sharp blades, scaffolding erection, vats of boiling liquid, acid or caustic substances, etc. which can and do kill and maim. They have not banned flapjacks of any shape or size any more than they banned children from playing conkers unless they were wearing safety glasses. This decision was taken at school level, presumably by the head. It is, if you'll excuse the pun, pointless to ban triangular flapjacks on the grounds that they are dangerous when thrown but still allow square and rectangular ones. Ban food throwing instead.

I propose everyone on GN go and make a batch of flapjacks, cut them into long pointy dangerous objects and play at hurtling them as target practice towards an object of their anger - may I suggest H&S as a natural target?
