I HATE AIRING CUPBOARDS

Why does mine seem to need turning out practically every two weeks? Why have I not managed to get matching pillowcases for God knows how long? Who put that bag of flanells right at the back (thought we were getting low on them! hmm

And how do you lose a sheet?!

Do charity shops take sheets (no longer deep enough) and odd pillowcases?

No airing cupboard in our place either I just have a very old trusted blanket chest which we have had for years with sheets on one side and quilt covers and pillow case's/bath mats and towels on top.

j08 Mon 25-Mar-13 17:26:28

absent! Fancy you remembering about that bath mat! Respect! grin

I think I might have some kind of fetish about them. Got a couple I haven't even taken the tags off of yet. hmm

EnviousA A boiler is one heater, usually in the kitchen that supplies hot water to the central heating radiators and to the kitchen sink and bathroom. You must have them in America!

Nonu Mon 25-Mar-13 17:23:24

Don"t panic , everyone makes typo"s

Nonu Mon 25-Mar-13 17:20:25

Envious , yes they can also heat the radiators for warmth in the house .

How many bath mats do you have? I have 4 but I do have a family bathroom and a e suite walk in shower in my bedroom.

Enviousamerican Mon 25-Mar-13 17:17:29

I guess a boiler is like are water heaters, right?

j08 I am becoming quite concerned about you and your household linen. I am sure that you have reported lost bath mats or something similar once before. Can you find another place for storing some of it, if the airing cupboard is too cramped with everything in it. Can you fit some sort of storage unit in a bathroom where you could then store towels?

I was lucky and had a piece of dead space on the the top floor landing so a linen cupboard was built there. It is large enough for the towels, face cloths and bath mats to go on the top shelf in five piles, double sheets etc. to go on the second shelf down, single sheets etc. to go on the third shelf down and tablecloths, oven gloves and various odds and sods to go on the bottom shelf. Not OCD – just out of the way and easy to get at. Well worth the cost.

Oh love my airing cupboard! Could not manage without t! Where old you put all your towels and bed linen not mention airing stuff!

Course is muddle have get on chair reach bed linen still have lots pretty bedding from daughters time have got
rid some yes charity shops. Take clean bedding.

Our house too big for combi boiler so glad would hate lose my warm cupboard.

Yes tank is insulated but pipe work etc keeps cupboard warm.

I like my bed too and it's very cheerful, but just in a random way.

j08 Mon 25-Mar-13 17:05:21

It's not OCD! grin I like my bed and like to do it justice with its bedding. Cheers up the mornings.

No airing cupboard because no hot water tank. No cold water tank either. No linen cupboard. DD's bedding (mostly from charity shops; nothing matches anything) in two drawers in her chest of drawers (also secondhand). The rest in a box under a table in my bedroom. I just pull out what's needed when it is and put back folded clean stuff.

Random to the max!

But it works and is simple. Nae worries smile

Sometimes I think I have a bit of OCD when compared to DD and DH, but when I read some of the stuff some of you guys write, I know I haven't grin

kittylester Mon 25-Mar-13 16:46:27

We have a traditional/condensing boiler as the pipework instalation to go over completely to a combi boiler was going to be so disruptive so we still have an airing cupboard. The tank is, however, so well insulated it is useless for anything but storage. I have a chest of drawers on the landing with a different drawer for each set of bedding [smugemoticon] I keep the towels in the airing cupboard - it's a blinking mess grin I prove bread on a baking sheet, on the floor, in the lounge close-ish to the radiator. Progress - pah!!

I have no airing cupboard because I have no cylinder, but have a linen cupboard with a radiator at the back which isn't always on. That's a pretty muddled place! How does it manage to have so much stuff when I've got rid of a lot already? And how is it that with so much stuff I can never find what I'm looking for?

Nonu Mon 25-Mar-13 16:38:37

Mine has NO heating

Ana Mon 25-Mar-13 16:32:54

Mushrooms, perhaps?

merlotgran Mon 25-Mar-13 16:29:02

And not just bread dough, jingle.demi-johns of home-made wine are at just the right temperature in the bottom of an airing cupboard and it's dark. They nestle quite snugly amidst the dogs' bedding. grin

Spare dog's bedding, I mean. The dogs do NOT sleep in the airing cupboard! wink

Just off to see a Steelye Span concert. Haven't heard them for years. Hope there isn't a queue for Carluccio's as I haven't eaten all day!!

Galen Mon 25-Mar-13 16:26:24

I have a linen cupboard but when my combi boiler was taken out and replaced above the calorifier by a compression boiler. I had the old boiler cupboard altered int an airing cupboard by the addition of a radiator and shelves.

Nonu Mon 25-Mar-13 16:19:16

I haven"t got an airing cupboard , I have a linen cupboard where I store sheets ,sweaters and the like .

grin

As more and more people have combi boilers fitted – these don't require a hot water cylinder Enviousamerican – airing cupboards will become obsolete. People will still linen cupboards, but not warm ones.

j08 Mon 25-Mar-13 16:15:34

I have seedlings in mine in the past. But they got forgotten about. And died.

Ana Mon 25-Mar-13 16:14:41

There's no room in my airing cupboard for dough rising activities! grin

j08 Mon 25-Mar-13 16:11:45

I've probably confused you more now EnviousA. Bread dough raising is a sort of sideline with airing cupboards.

j08 Mon 25-Mar-13 16:10:46

Elegran! Turn your heating up! You shouldn't be that cold.

No, nothing like utility rooms. I haven't got one of those.

Bread dough rises much more slowly in my airing cupboard since we had a new cylinder with a smart green jacket made to fit. It used to whizz up when we had the old cylinder.

Enviousamerican Mon 25-Mar-13 16:10:11

thanks!
