One company I worked for took us all away for a weekend during which we discussed the company's future and drew up a Vision and Mission statement for the company.

I spent the week end being uncharacteristicly quiet, sitting on my hands and biting my tongue because I knew that if I said anything I would be unable to keep my derision for the whole weekend's activities out of my voice and bang would go a beautiful career

That's ok nanaej nice and succinct if that was the whole thing.

We created one at the school where I was HT 'Happy children, successful learners' ........

yes indeed galen - I'm sure that would induce some hollow laughter in certain quarters.

It doesn't matter to the conversation but if your curious like me,Albertsons is a chain of grocery stores.

Mission Statements - the territory of hapless CEOs and their henchmen, who think if they get their staff to spout this mindless rubbish they'll all fall in line and believe that they are all in it together. Now where else have I heard that recently.....?

Avon. Slap sellers.

Verbiage. Have they ever heard of conciseness? Bullet points would at least be comprehensible.

I remember when working for SSD they suddenly started having "mission statements" in various establishments - and you see it on hospital wards as well. Flimsy and pointless window dressing as far as I am concerned.

And another Fortune 500 company - an agribusiness making food for animals etc:
