Forgive me if this has been covered before but I am relatively new to GN.
I form a picture of people from their postings. ( I hope I'm not alone) and then they throw something in that completely turns my view of them on its head.

That was it, absent, and he wrote some very funny articles. He was a schoolmaster before he got into radio. Obviously homosexual and very gentle and sweet.

Just a Minute Greatnan?

Two members have made me more open-minded about religion - they haven't converted me, but they have made me see some of the good done by some churches and I am grateful to them.
Two other people have surprised me by apparently doing a complete volte- face on what I thought were their views. It is all part of life's rich tapestry, as the lovely Arthur Marsall used to say. (Does anybody else remember him - such a lovely giggler?)

My DD has been on at me for years to think before I speak. In this instance it's, don't type it. Wink

janeainsworth Mon 08-Apr-13 20:19:41

Matson the upside down v's are supposed to make the word appear in italics, but jo8 didn't leave a space between 'in' and 'everyone' so they came out as upside down v's grin
If you scroll down past the message box, all is explained smile

Ana Mon 08-Apr-13 20:02:01

No, no - don't do it absent! shock You'd lose that air of mystery....wink

absent Mon 08-Apr-13 19:52:14

Ana Lots of us are not at all predictable – but that is for us to know. grin I sometimes wonder whether I should reveal that I am, in fact …

Ana Mon 08-Apr-13 19:46:50

Exactly, absent, no one is completely predictable.

matson Mon 08-Apr-13 19:45:27

JO8 , what are those upside down v,s infront of the word everyone? forgive me, me and the tinternet are still getting aquainted smile x

absent Mon 08-Apr-13 19:42:05

I wouldn't dream of "interpreting" the OP, but I do know that it is easy to fall into the lazy perspective of seeing a familiar name and thinking "left-wing crosspatch", "right-wing bigot", "gooey granny", "soppy sweetness", bad-tempered bat", "let's all be nice and and not say anything controversial" or whatever.

I have been much influenced by things I have read on GN. But at the moment I am completely confused so am off to get another wine. Which will mean I shall be even more......

Ana Mon 08-Apr-13 19:31:43

Don't be silly, jane! grin

janeainsworth Mon 08-Apr-13 19:16:52

You mean I'm uniformly unpleasant Ana grin
There's paranoia for you grin

j08 Mon 08-Apr-13 18:50:54

Oh Petra,! Let us in on it. Being deleted is painless.

Ana Mon 08-Apr-13 18:43:11

It certainly won't be you, jane smile

j08 Mon 08-Apr-13 18:41:08

POGS Mon 08-Apr-13 18:40:44

j08 Mon 08-Apr-13 18:39:23

Oh I do!!!!! grin

soop Mon 08-Apr-13 18:34:09

I'm pleased to say that, since joining GN, I've changed my mind about many things. I am very grateful to those members that have helped me to become more broadminded and less judgemental. flowers smile moon
Time to feed the cats wink

janeainsworth Mon 08-Apr-13 18:32:51

Agree with you jo8
I don't think I want to know who the OP had in mind hmm

annodomini Mon 08-Apr-13 18:08:24

How did you chat on line for all those years before the Internet was invented? Not that I doubt your word, Sapphyr, I'd just like to know what was the fore-runner of the net.

j08 Mon 08-Apr-13 18:03:57

It's almost a thread about a poster started by someone not quite brave (or stupid) enough. grin

j08 Mon 08-Apr-13 18:01:34

This is the kind of post that brings out the paranoia in^everyone^!

grin
