anno Would the council paint a white stripe across the entrance to mark it clearly? Or is there one already, which is being ignored?

My plank suggestion was mostly humourous, but if you don't have a white stripe, you could threaten the plank if the council don't send a painter along.

glassortwo You are quite right I could hardly believe how all 4 grandchildren had grown so much. I last saw them in July when they all came for a visit. I perhaps see them about 4 times a year at the most. I wish I could see them more often.sad

glassortwo Fri 12-Apr-13 22:39:12

elizabeth dont they grow so quick. smile

Elegran, placing planks across the pavement would pose a risk to the mobility scooters that buzz up and down the road, not to mention all the pedestrians. I did nick a cone once but some spoilsport came and took it away again. The problem is that if there's a cone in my entrance, I have to move it to drive out and then get out of the car to put it back in place; then do the same things on the way back. hmm

Hello 12Michael in Brackley! One of the many random places I have lived in my time smile We moved there just before the M40 opened and the big house-building drive took place. Also just before the Co-Op opened, followed sometime later by .... hmmm ... was it a Sainsbury that opened on the outskirts?

Elegran Fri 12-Apr-13 21:04:11

Keep a plank and a couple of bricks handy. Lay them across the entrance, very slightly out into the road, not so far out that anyone can drive into them, just enough to discourage anyone from parking there. You could even paint some suitable message on the plank (or even an unsuitable one) Do you have a line painted on the road across there to mark it?

Greatnan Fri 12-Apr-13 20:41:38

Any chance of getting a couple of cones to put on your drive, anno?

And good evening Friday. What a frustrating day! I live in an end terrace which means that I have room to bring my car off the road and everyone else, plus visitors, tradespeople and uncle Tom Cobbley and all park on my side of the road. From time to time some inconsiderate person parks across my entrance. Once, I got so fed up that I rang the police and miraculously they turned up, took photographs and booked the offender who would have returned to find a notice stuck to the windscreen. Today I was ready to go out to lunch with friends when I saw a (you've guessed it) white van impeding my exit. I could see people working on houses but couldn't find the guilty party. Finally I rang my friend who said she'd come and pick me up. Five minutes before she arrived, the culprit turned up looking innocent. I gave him 'a good talking to' and don't think he'll do it again. I drove behind my friend so that she wouldn't have to bring me back. After a 'sustaining' lunch (see 5:2 thread), I came back to find...yet another van parked across my entry! The driver and his mate were doing something to a neighbour's TV aerial and were quite peeved to be told they were in the wrong! However, a parking space became available at that very moment and everyone was satisfied. Although this has happened before, it has never happened twice on the same day, or even in the same week.
Please forgive this rant - am I beginning to sound like Frank?

On holiday with the Gch and DH in Spain. Wonderful sun every day....bliss. More of a bucket and spade holiday rather than an exploring, sitting in tapas bar type one. Early to bed etc however a good rest from the grind.

afternoon, cold, damp and dreary here in the north eastsad could we start a GN sundance please? x

Thistledoo Fri 12-Apr-13 12:23:33

Most beautiful day here in Inverness-shire. Warm with no freezing easterly wind, sat in the garden and did my nails. What a treat. Good morning all and have a great day.

Bright sunshine at 07.30, but pretty overcast now. Goldfinches, sparrows and the odd greenfinch at the feeders and 'our' blackbird parading up and down on the grass. I'm keeping an eye out for next-door's cats.

Butty Fri 12-Apr-13 11:13:42

Blustery, sunny and showery - fresh and bright.

Thanks soop!

A delightful Friday in Kintyre. There is a certain "softness" in the air. Buds are beginning to show real interest. Birds are singing noisily. Cat is sleeping. I wish you all a very pleasant day. smile

glassortwo Fri 12-Apr-13 10:25:08

gillieB if DH is heading up this way he is going to get very wet, enjoy the day to yourself. sunshine

GillieB Fri 12-Apr-13 10:22:07

As Harrigran said, it's very grey and wet in the north east - my silly DH has, however, gone out with his cycling buddies for their usual Friday ride - his excuse is that he will have to miss his next two Fridays as we are away. Anyway I am now having a quiet day doing exactly what I please.

Galen Fri 12-Apr-13 10:02:00

Odd break in the cloud cover. Just watched the Grimaldi lines car carrier Grande Benelux steam down the channel looking right and spring like in her yellow and white livery.

harrigran Fri 12-Apr-13 09:42:46

Good morning, grey and wet in the north east.

annodomini Fri 12-Apr-13 09:41:36

The clouds are quite high and occasionally the sun looks like making an appearance. It is much less cold than it has been. Normally this is the week (I remember because it's DS's birthday tomorrow) when the damson blossom comes out but there's no sign of it yet. The amelanchier has burst into leaf and the blossom should come soon. The poor old camellias are still waiting.

Sook Fri 12-Apr-13 09:06:10

We have had a little rain overnight and it's a dull start to the morning, but I'm not complaining.

Enjoy your day everyone smile

PRINTMISS Fri 12-Apr-13 08:40:39

Good morning, threatening sky and looks as if we had lots of rain overnight. Not cold, thank goodness, and yesterday was really warm - or perhaps it was just that we had become used to the freezing weather. Have nice weekend everyone.

Elizabeth1 Fri 12-Apr-13 08:08:47

Good morning all. It's dull here at the moment in Fife. Hope the central heating will soon no longer be required. It's going to be a good day.smile

Bez Fri 12-Apr-13 07:36:27

Good morning everyone - sun out here in Dordogne - still damp everywhere from the rain during the night. Blossom has suddenly burst on the fruit trees everywhere around but no sign of any sprouting in the vineyards yet. Hope you all have a warmer day.

12Michael Fri 12-Apr-13 07:28:12

Good Morning Everyone,
Its a wet start here in Brackley.
