Well you were making some very strong assertions about how children learn JO. I was just interested in your evidence base.

Apparently, there are still people who believe that teachers work a five hour day. Of course, there are still people who believe the earth is flat.

Perhaps my assertions come from the bringing up of three children who attended a comprehensive school, a grammer school, and a European School.

And then there are my grandsons, of course, currently attending a different kind of school again.

And perhaps I will mention that both my daughters are teachers. (Son was too, but found he disliked kids) #whydidntheknowbefore???

Yes JO of course. I have also understood lots from my children (primary schools, grammar schools, universities, post-graduate) and my grandchildren (primary schools in England and Spain). Useful and interesting, but nothing compared with thirty-five years in the classroom in terms of what I know and understand about how children of all abilities learn. Sorry, but I do think experience matters. Sadly Michael Gove doesn't.

I can remember some truly awful teachers who I came in contact with while my kids were still at primary school.

It is a ridiculous analogy because teaching will never be an exact science like medicine has to be.

Isn't the arguement about school holidays that children whose parents use the holidays to spend time with them doing interesting/educational/fun things have an advantage over children whose parents just stick them in front of a telly for 6 weeks and therefore the children with the advantage [and their parents] should lose that precious time with them. Or so I've heard.
