This really made me laugh. Couldn't resist tweeting 'Cannot find samphire grass anywhere. Will have to use asparagus'

Any bag will do, though I have lots of completely anonymous ones, like a couple of string bags, a flowery wheelie bag and a nylon one that rolls up very small to be carried in my handbag; so as long as I remember to take them with me into the shop, I don't need to have Waitrose, Sainsbury's or Aldi bags at all. [smug emoticon].I neither know nor care what that reveals about my social standing.

merlot sssh, whatever, I told Gillybob I was going to check on my grounds, she said she was going ou't back. grin

merlotgran Sat 04-May-13 22:23:26

It's a bumpy farm road, Sel but I once filled in a form which was getting a bit intrusive so I referred to it as my drive!

Sel Sat 04-May-13 22:21:03

In the South that is grin

Sel Sat 04-May-13 22:20:29

Wow, that's not a drive, 400 yds is a road.

Ella46 Sat 04-May-13 22:20:24

Ana You know me too well!! wink
I love taking my Lidl carriers into Waitrose.

merlotgran Sat 04-May-13 22:17:57

I do, Sel and 400 yds of drive grin

gillybob Sat 04-May-13 22:15:11

I know that Merlot (give me a tiny bit credit please) grin

Sel Sat 04-May-13 22:11:32

gillybob I'm surprised you didn't pick up on the the fact that merlotgran doesn't have neighbours. Obviously she has grounds too grin

merlotgran Sat 04-May-13 22:07:57

Yes, gillybob. It was a joke. hmm

gillybob Sat 04-May-13 22:00:58

I take my ASDA carrier bags to Morrisons or my Aldi bag to M & S. But to deliberately try and disguise where you shop or worse still decant things bought at Aldi into the empty (more acceptable) brand bottles is a joke!

merlotgran Sat 04-May-13 21:55:16

I hadn't thought of that, gillybob as I don't have any neighbours grin

Galen Sat 04-May-13 21:53:25

I have my groceries delivered (can't walk round store) and next door takes the carrier bags and reuses them. Apparently they go to France (her dd) and Spain (they have a property there!)
Therefore I can't disguise where my groceries come from.

gillybob Sat 04-May-13 21:50:15

I cannot think of anything more snobby than taking a blooming Waitrose carrier bag to Aldi in order to "hide" the shopping. Who would you be hiding it from? Oh yes I get it the neighbours, who are probably doing exactly the same.grin

Galen Sat 04-May-13 21:50:07

I'm making banana bread tomorrow DGD likes graggy's cake!

Sook Sat 04-May-13 21:46:03

Elegran Yum. Would you share the recipe please. I buy bananas in bulk when they are reduced and make banana loaves.

Ella my husband has an obsession with collecting house bricks confused he is known locally as Lord Rubble so I guess that makes me Lady Rubble [snooty emoticon]

Ana Sat 04-May-13 20:57:50

'Lady Muck', Ella? grin

Galen Sat 04-May-13 20:55:55

Oo-er yer highness! (Bobs a curtsy and retires backwards from room!)

Ella46 Sat 04-May-13 20:45:36

I have never had a toast rack and I am definitely working class, but I have had a title.....Lady of the Manor of.... grin

Elegran Sat 04-May-13 20:29:11

I made pear chutney yesterday. Does that make me middle class?

The pears were reduced to £1 a kilo for a quick sale. That probably reduces me to working or economy class.

Nelliemoser Sat 04-May-13 19:43:43

So is ALDI gin! Particularly when Damsons have been soaking in it for 6months. (hic)
I suppose making my own Damson Gin and Damson Jams should give me a few Middle Class credits! I made my own Marmalade as well this year.

merlotgran Sat 04-May-13 18:52:06

Aldi is definitely the new Harrods round here. The car park is full of SUVs, everyone uses Waitrose bottle carriers and their vegetarian cook book at £3.99 sold out on the day it opened. Their Summer Punch can be poured into an empty Pimms bottle and nobody knows the difference. grin wine The £2.99 Merlot is pretty good as well!!

Gally Sat 04-May-13 15:24:35

I've got a toast rack - I use it as a letter rack for bills etc. It lives in the kitchen so I am reminded to pay them.....
Trouble with a toast rack, is the crumbs fall all over the place so it has to go on a plate so you may as well put the toast on the plate to begin with hmm. Now I'm on my own, I have been known to eat at the cooker straight from the pan into the mouth - is that middle class?
