I have always liked this thread, so here I am resurrecting it!

Today I have mainly been eating, drinking and sleeping, then eating....

Such decadence! Lunchtime drinks at the Yacht club, watching the gaffer (DGD explained what it meant) racing and the sun glinting on the water, then home for a bite, then a snooze...what a life. How lovely today was.

It has been, and still is, the most beautiful day here, and I have pottered about happily, achieving little things that neede sorting out. We had to hose grand dog down after his walk on the cliffs at Westward Ho! where he found a lovely muddy puddle at the end of the walk.

All calm, and gentle, and very, very pleasant. grin wine

Westward Ho! itself isn`t the place it once was, but walks along the cliffs still sounds like a nice idea for a day like today. Glad you had a lovely time.

Ariadne Sun 26-May-13 18:15:29

Westward Ho! is not the place to go during the holiday season, but, as you say, the cliff walks are great! Tarka loves it.

I have been doing far too much gardening. On Thursday I bought a few rather a lot of new plants from an excellent local garden centre.

Today intending to plant some of the Alpines in the alpine bed. I began by tidying that bed up and then clearing out some larger clumps of the most over enthusiastic plants.
In the end I spent about four hours digging up about half the bed and teasing apart other plants to get rid of some extremely invasive White Alliums.
My hands, arms and shoulders, have been stiff and painful all week. they are going to be dreadful tonight.

Beware of visiting sisters offering plant cuttings!. They usually turn out to be offshoots of the most invasive species. Or smelly plants which leave your car stinking for days after driving them 130 miles up the M5. /M6.

Yes, I've been in the garden for most of today as well. Got a few pots in the middle of the lawn that have been there for a few years while I decided if they looked ok there, so today I dug the area out so I could put that plastic stuff down. Then watched a couple more episodes of Broadchurch. Desperately trying to watch the whole series in as short a time as possible before someone tells me whodidit.

I've just spilt hemp seed all over the kitchen! It's like mercury – rolls everywhere! And it's not what you think, either! I grind it and put it in home-made bread along with ground linseed (in a ratio of about 1:10). <gets vacuum cleaner out>

Yesterday and today I have been mainly waiting. DH took his brother to the doctors and came back with the news that the doctor had given him (DH) a list of the things that he wanted BIL checked urgently for at the local hospital's emergency department. My BIL didn't want to go but eventually agreed. They were about to come home in the early hours when BIL fell, so was thankfully admitted. This morning after feeding BIL's dog and two feral cats we were unable to get an answer from the emergency ward that he was in,so DH went back to the hospital and phoned, to say that they couldn't find him! Not long ago he came back home to say that my brother in law has been admitted and will be in for "four or five days". He has to go back later to speak to the doctors and maybe find out more. My BIL has longstanding health problems and is 83 years old. Meanwhile I stay by the phone ready to relay information.
Plenty of time for GN though smile

Took the Cubs to the beach tonight so they could play Ducks and Drakes. Then Capture the Flag in the woods. They didn't want Cubs to end.

Enjoying a Families Day at a 'not to be mentioned' Forces base, with extended family. And the sun shone.

Am in England for half-term and last night went to adult ballet with my daughter and granddaughters. My knees don't bend as far and I can't jump as high, but I can still dance! I did the pirouette in pairs across the room exercise with my eldest granddaughter, which was brilliant.

Now awake and planning the packing for this morning, as we're off to France later, on the Plymouth to Roscoff ferry. We shall then bimble gently up to Normandy, then Calais, (my wine order will be ready for me!!) then Kent, visiting friends, then meet our returned Vocational Training Team, then drive home.

Theseus thinks he'll just take his sports bag, and seemed to think I'd take something similar. Huh!

Hannoona Thu 30-May-13 06:54:03

I'm just about to go and collect my newly pregnant daughter in law and take her for a day out. No real shopping as such apart from groceries because I want her to share getting the first baby things with her mum when she goes to her home country in the summer for a visit. We will have a nice lunch though and look for some new bedroom furniture for me.

My son is in a good 'place' even though he had a very restless, up and down dancing all night, night, so Im not worried about leaving him in the very capable hands of his carers. He has a 1500 piece jigsaw on the go and will make short work of it over the next 2 days. It has a train in it so he's over the moon.

Its going to be a really good day smile

Day 4 of my hols in Portugal. Enjoying time with a friend at her lovely house. Her husband, son and his girlfriend arrive tonight so no more skinny dipping or girl- chat! Lovely to be in the sunshine looking over the hills to the sea.

soop Thu 30-May-13 14:28:43

Good for you, Gally have lots of fun.

The sun is shining brightly in Kintyre. The sky is cloudless. Bees are busying themselves in the garden. I shall join them soon. smile

Butty Thu 30-May-13 16:03:13

For a sundowner, soop?? wink

Went off for a wild orchid walk this afternoon with camera. Some lovely ones to be seen. Got drenched - it's still pouring it down.

Today, after a visit to the doctors last night, I`ve been to the hospital for my sciatica ridden leg and knee to be X-rayed. Then back to doc because I was in agony, pleading with him for something to stop the pain, been crying all morning. Anyway, he gave me a prescription for some morphine solution, the pain`s still here, but after one dose I was able to go to bed,( unheard of for me in the afternoon!) and get a bit of much needed sleep.
Sorry to sound so negative, will try to cheer up from now on!

soop Thu 30-May-13 17:25:53

Dear number please be kind to yourself and rest as much as possible. So sorry to hear that you've been in pain. flowers

Butty We have a wild orchid in our garden. At least we did have. Must take a look. The photo that you sent of a part of your garden, is lovely. I'm very fond of old stone walls. They have great character. smile

Tegan Thu 30-May-13 18:05:54

Yes; take care number. You've had a lot of stress over the past few months which won't have helped either. Look after yourself.

kittylester Thu 30-May-13 18:42:19

Number flowers

I spent the afternoon at the theatre watching 'Grandpa in my Pocket' which was brilliant. DGD1 sat on my knee totally immersed - watching her face was a real pleasure. smile

Nelliemoser Thu 30-May-13 19:29:03

It was supposed to be a fast day. I went shopping and decided to use up and freeze some short dated peanuts by making a satay sauce and I also needed to make the Ginger wine ice cream I had bought the cream for.

I mixed up and ground and chopped and washed up things for hours.
I put the ginger ice cream mix in the machine and only when I was ladling it out into the containers did I realise I had forgotten to add the Ginger Wine. Still nice, but better with the wine.

The trouble is when cooking you need to keep tasting the food for seasoning and you can't get all the ice cream off the mixer without using your fingers and its a shame to waste the mixture.

I probably didn't add too many calories. Honest!

Sook Thu 30-May-13 22:58:48

Nellie which ice cream maker would you recommend confused

Sook Thu 30-May-13 23:00:02

Sorry I meant machine blush
