I have always liked this thread, so here I am resurrecting it!

Today I have mainly been eating, drinking and sleeping, then eating....

Such decadence! Lunchtime drinks at the Yacht club, watching the gaffer (DGD explained what it meant) racing and the sun glinting on the water, then home for a bite, then a snooze...what a life. How lovely today was.

I feel DH and I lead very quiet sedentary lives. He has always been a sit around and read sort of person at the best of times, but his health sort of adds to that and I find it hard to have enough "get up and go" for both of us!! Long and short today was that feeling stir crazy, I said we had to get out somewhere - anywhere! So we went off to Wrest Park (English Heritage) which is only about 30-40 minutes from us (except by my navigation) and had a lovely afternoon in the most beautiful gardens, in the house which was restored in 2011, in the tearoom and just outside in the sunshine! sunshine Added bonus was knowing we were at last using our EH membership which is more usually a charitable donation. If you are anywhere near Bedfordshire and haven't been - I do recommend it. If you have DGC with you it also has a fantastic playground for tinies and slightly biggers - slides, swings, climbing thingies and even a zip-wire!!smile

Good to hear, ga! You deserve it.

annodomini Sat 25-May-13 09:48:55

Good for you, GA. You deserve a treat and Cornwall sounds ideal. Enjoy yourselves. sunshine I hope.

vegas - ouch! flowers
Yesterday my husband took me out for coffee and on our way home a friend called inviting us out for dinner - their treat. smile
When we arrived home I went online and sort of accidentally found myself booking us into a hotel in Cornwall for two days. grin
I'm feeling a bit low after my illness and tomorrow is the anniversary of my son in law's death sad; my daughter had already suggested that I should get away if possible and I suddenly decided that I would. So, I'm off to throw a few things into a bag and heading for Polperro. The four young men in the house can fend for themselves. (He-he)

Thanks anno - def a bit of a bore. Note to self - get out of way when determined lady with heavy trolley bearing down on you!

annodomini Fri 24-May-13 22:49:52

vegas, sorry to hear about your poor toe. It does seem a very unreasonable policy not to x-ray smaller toes even when a doctor deems it necessary. Note to self: do not break toes!

vegasmags Fri 24-May-13 22:28:41

Not had a very nice day today. Food shopping this morning and depressed at how expensive everything is getting. This afternoon to my GP with my broken toe - broken in Tesco by a badly driven trolley 9 weeks ago - to try to find out why it is still swollen and very painful. Lovely GP tried to organise an Xray to check that it was healing but was told over the phone that the hospital don't do Xrays of broken toes, other than the big toe. Poor man was very embarrassed, especially as, like me, he thinks it is a comminuted fracture (prob not spelt right but means all smashed up) so sent away to wait for it to get better! Meanwhile, I am putting on weight through lack of exercise and too much red wine and chocolate to address general fedupness.

I have been doing exam invigilation this week. Today's was an absolute joy- GCSE Music. An hour of listening to extracts of LOVELY music then the candidates had questions to answer on each piece. I didn't have to do anything once they had started as all the gaps were built into the CD. It ended with the final verse of Old Man River, sung by a wonderful voice - I wonder if it was Willard White, or Bryn Terfel - made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up anyway!! Almost immoral to expect money for such a pleasant morning! smile

Betsygran, my sister`s off up there in 3 weeks time, they`re renting a cottage at, is it Ord? Hope you enjoy your break, we`ve never been to Skye.

betsysgran Fri 24-May-13 20:48:46

Spent the day getting ready to go to the Isle of Skye for a week. DH and I go to a wee cottage right by the sea looking over to Scalpay. Looking forward to the peace and quiet.smile

Galen Fri 24-May-13 20:41:58

Although, I have made strawberry icecream, vegetable soup, organised clearing out the storage box cupboard, organised the Gardner (Gary) given DD advice over Skype about a sore patch on DGD's leg and arranged for someone to come and give me an estimate for drive gates!
Still bored!

Galen Fri 24-May-13 20:37:15

....walked up and down for hours with an unhappy, teething, 4 mth old.

Poor bubba.....sore & miserable, tired and cranky, with new tooth erupting - only settled when cuddled close.

Poor granny ..... tired out!! tennis elbow (which had been on the mend) now totally trashed again, knees protesting like crazy.

The joys of active grand-parenting smile

Haven't had a cream tea for years number so to offered a gf one was unmissable and it was lovely.

annodomini Thu 23-May-13 17:28:24

I've had a busy day at the CAB and now have a bad headache. I think it's a combination of the fluorescent lighting and the computer monitors - the clients are fine; I enjoy interviewing, but recording cases has been - literally - a pain.

numberplease Thu 23-May-13 17:16:50

And did you enjoy it Kitty? Daft question!! grin

kittylester Thu 23-May-13 17:05:59

We came back to our hotel mid afternoon and decided to have cup of tea, DH ordered carrot cake and I asked whether they had any gluten free cakes, expecting the normal, negative, reply. 'Certainly madam, would you like a gluten free cream tea?'. Well, it would have been rude not to, wouldn't it? grin

Marelli, we don`t have any radiators, so no danger there, but I wouldn`t dream of lying on the floor, I`d be there till Doomsday if I did! My sciatica`s been coming and going since the mid 80s, but it`s always been in my lower back and leg on the left side, this time it`s my right leg, and it`s not for going away. Went into town this morning for the first time in a month, only because I really needed to get to the bank, and wouldn`t you just know it, the one time that I really needed to sit on every other bench I came to...........they were all wet from the flippin` rain!

Sook Thu 23-May-13 14:18:03

Have a lovely time Nellie smile

whenim64 Thu 23-May-13 13:18:04

Just been checking out what the magpie has left to soak in my bird bath. It ate a few pieces, flew off then returned to swish the food around in the water, then flew off with a beakful. Orange coloured Doritos! Perhaps the chicks have a penchant for chilli favoured corn snacks? grin
