Today I have been mainly Vol. 6

I have always liked this thread, so here I am resurrecting it!

Today I have mainly been eating, drinking and sleeping, then eating....

Such decadence! Lunchtime drinks at the Yacht club, watching the gaffer (DGD explained what it meant) racing and the sun glinting on the water, then home for a bite, then a snooze...what a life. How lovely today was.

When I was a young mother, a friend of the family did just that. She locked her shop up one lunch time and was never seen or heard from again.

Aka Did they check the deep freeze? grin

I Particularly want to disappear when absent OHs also chaotic younger brother rings to speak to him at 7:30am on Sunday morning.
He seemed to have no idea of the time. Here is me thinking what has happened now? Is he drunk? Has his partner thrown him out at last.

Does his lovely big sister know what is happening? It is her greatest fear that she might have to accommodate her baby brother now 55yrs old.?

Is he ringing my OH for a financial bail out? His big sister has bought them a tankful of heating oil before now. He's not coming here or if he needs to I hope OH won't invite him here next week. Flipping heck its only 8a/m. and I am in worry mode. Must ring my sister in law later.

I have been trying to sleep since about 1.00a.m., and think I probably achieved about four non consecutive hours. Too much garlic in dinner last night, plus the heat, plus the achy knees, I think, plus Theseus getting up "quietly" (!) at 5.00 to go and help run a big charity cycling event.

I have had to give in and lie down again. Sorry to whinge - feeling sorry for myself!

Ella46 Sun 21-Jul-13 09:46:46

Ariadne, take it easy flowers

Nellie Unplug the phone!

annodomini Sun 21-Jul-13 10:43:02

I did my usual thing, woke up at 6, read for a while and went back to sleep - woke again at 9.15. Yesterday I was up with the birds because our U3A writing group had tables at a table-top sale and we had to get it organised from 7am onwards. We had far too much stuff and especially too many books. That's what came of my making an appeal for donations at a U3A main meeting. We didn't make a loss, but very little profit. Such punters as did come were mainly outside at the car boots. Tomorrow the members of our group are going for a pub lunch in the Peak District and looking for inspiration for our next lot of poems and stories.

Ariadne - have an easy day. brew

Anno enjoy the Peak District - need to go there soon - haven't been since February! sunshine

Nellie don't unplug the phone. Better to fend them off by phone than having them turn up in person 'because you didn't answer the phone' which was the excuse one of DH's brothers used. angry He didn't think we might actually be avoiding him! Be strong flowers

Nelliemoser Sun 21-Jul-13 12:13:27

Kitty No chance of that. he lives exists in Cornwall and probably cannot afford the fare or the petrol for his motorbike.

When my OH was going in for surgery to remove a benign brain tumor three years ago his little brother was going to come up and stay here to be while he was in hospital. BIL was cooking up that idea with OH!!! shock.

We circumvented this by asking my sister in law to have us to stay in Buckinghamshire the weekend before the surgery.

Brother came up from Cornwall and our son came up the from other side of the M25 to see him as well. The 250 mile round trip for me driving was much less wearing than having visitors at that particular time. Sister in law cooks wonderfully as well.

Sorry you're feeling rotten, ariadne. Hope you have a comfortable day flowers.

I'd unplug the phone too, nellie, at least overnight. People can always leave messages.

Nelliemoser Sun 21-Jul-13 12:21:15

Its hard not to enjoy the Peak District. I am going to there next week for my little holiday by myself. Not that its far away, I go over it about very two weeks to see DGS.
Whoops! another of my I love the Peak District plugs. wink

Been climbing ladders. One of my rambling roses is trying to get into the roof so needed clipped. DH is here to put up the ladder and hold it while I climb up with loppers strapped to my person.

I also climbed the ladder to get to remove a temporary power line that we put up into a eucalyptus tree for when we had movable electric fencing to protect the chickens. We don't need it any more but might be able to freecycle it.

Also had a friend round to have a go at archery.

Put Minibags and her pal on a train to Glasgow this morning. Her big sister was meeting them in Glasgow (coming over from Edinburgh) and was going to let them "show her round". Haven't heard a cheep all day so presume all is well. At some point there will be a call or text to say they are on such and such a train so that we can go and collect them.

sunshine smile

Tegan Sun 21-Jul-13 17:48:10

Wondering if number is ok? Haven't noticed her posting recently..don't recall her saying she'd gone away.

Ariadne Sun 21-Jul-13 17:52:47

Oh, thank you! I took your advice, and have slept well. Theseus is still out rounding up cyclists but sounds very happy, if a bit weary. Wonder if he'd have an omelette - it is very hot here!

So nice to have friends rooting for you. xxx

Nelliemoser Sun 21-Jul-13 18:10:31

Ariadne I hope tonight is better. There is nothing worse than lying awake aching in the wee small hours. I've done too much of that lately. You end up feeling tired all day. flowers

Tegan Sun 21-Jul-13 18:25:51

I had a brilliant nights sleep [well, more like day really as slept from 2 this morning till 1.30 this afternoon. Took some piriton to help with the eczema which has appeared on my feet and it always knocks me out [not sure if it's supposed to]. At least it's not so humid today; hope the storm that seems to be brewing materialises as I've cut the lawn in preparation. If it doesn't rain I'll have to get the watering can out sad.

Butty Sun 21-Jul-13 18:36:15

Re-hydrating after a champagne filled day on Saturday, and a homeward 6 hr. drive south today in a car which registered 35C with no air-con. Feeling very happy but don't want to talk French for a very long time. Champagne does help though. smile

Will probably have one of Ariane's mystery viruses tomorrow. wink

Glad to see you're feeling better A.

Mamie Sun 21-Jul-13 18:45:37

It has been 39c here today. Just awful, no breeze, high twenties in the house, garden wilting. Not sure we will get a storm, which we surely need....

Oldgreymare Sun 21-Jul-13 19:10:50

Eating a delicious lunch, organised by Galen in her lovely courtyard garden, and enjoying the company of Maniac,* Sunseeker* and Mike from Bristol.

Ariadne Sun 21-Jul-13 19:26:57

Now waiting for you know who to come home (suspect pub is on his agenda!) and sitting with my electric fan aimed directly at me....mmmmm.

numberplease Sun 21-Jul-13 23:52:40

Thank you for your concern Tegan, I have been around, but not much, hubby is in hospital, and twice daily visits take up a fair bit of time. He`s been in there for 11 days, his op is tomorrow morning (Monday).
