Good point petallus - I was just remarking to DH that there is currently a press outcry re Oxford. Calling for chief execs to resign is not a good role for the press. Sometimes the person who has lived through something and learned a lot is the right person to hang on in there and put the lessons into practice. But neither we nor the press are in a position to judge - there is usually a form of governance in place that has the power to ask for resignations or sack someone and they have the knowledge.
If someone has been elected, as in the case of an MP or councillor, then the electorate can sack em at the next election. No-one else can get rid of them can they?

There's a lot of hounding going on in our society at the moment.

I'm not signing. Before i tried to get somebody sacked i'd want to know more than i heard in the media.

Is he the one who said something equally offensive earlier this year, then resigned, then came back and stood for election? Whether it is or not, like you, Sel I do not get it at all!

It seems utterly unbelievable that he could come out with such vile comments - and be re-elected. I don't get it.

Scary that there are more and more 'independent' and , dare I say, other councillors (in a particular increasingly popular party) whose opinions and views on a whole range of things have not gone through a proper 'vetting' process. I know there are 'loony lefties' and 'rabid righties' in major parties but there is a clear process to deal with them!

As a grandma of a delightful little girl, who just happens to have Down Syndrome, and is thus classed as disabled, I am absolutely disgusted by this man. How dare he suggest that children such as my granddaughter should, in effect, be "put down"! What he suggests is quite horrific and it totally disgusts me that people have elected this person to public office.

For any Cornwall Grans who wish to air their feelings about these vile statements a protest has been organised at Truro County Hall at 10.30am on May 24.

That is dire, but more worrying is that this is probably only the edge of his views which seem to be veering towards fascism.

When he has "done away" with the disabled who will he go for next? The elderly, other races and religions, gays? does he want a genetically pure Cornwall?

He clearly does even have the common sense to realise that even if he thinks these things, it is inappropriate to say them. That suggests that he is extremely arrogant with no regard for the feeling or opinions of others.

An example also of the minus side of independent councillors - had he belonged to a political party at least he would have been thrown out and not allowed to stand this time ( after his previous rant).

The people who voted for him are just as bad!
