I have a T-shirt which I class as house wear. Hanging it on line earlier I was shocked to realize it's. 10 years old It was bought in USA and still in good condition despite regular wear.

Should I blush

LizG how disconcerting to keep changing size - hopefully not an overnight thing grin

I do know what you mean though - I have clothes that cover approx. four different sizes.

LizG Fri 17-May-13 07:52:27

Sadly nothing lasts long because I keep changing size so my clothes rarely actually fit. At the moment everything is too small sad. Haven't got the space for four different wardrobes.

Everything!

A green tweed jacket I bought in 1979 just after my first child was born. 4 months later we moved to the sub tropics, and I wear it once or twice a year, at a winter BBQ or if I'm going somewhere early or late. It is rarely cold here during the day in winter. Actually, it is quite funny: if you are walking down the street and stray into the shadows, it is freezing, then one step into the sun, and it is warm.

Ariadne green with envy

A Burberry trench coat, inherited over 30 years ago from my lovely German step mother in law. I wore it for a while, then it was put away for a long time, then all of a sudden it was fashionable again! It is long, warm and in excellent condition, (if only I was) and it looks very smart. It did have a button in quilted lining, which got lost in our many moves. I love it.

Oh and my Cornish neckerchief for wearing at Padstow May Day [which I've missed again this year].

Tegan Thu 16-May-13 20:39:51

A check shirt that I bought when I was @ 17. Very retro looking now but a bit fragile and frayed round the edges [bit like it's owner sad].

I have a raw wool Aaron sweater that was knitted in 1967 and is kept on a lead! It's never been washed as its waterproof. The pattern is for fishermen of the west of Ireland.
I also have 43 year old wedding dress, and honeymoon coat. I still have some RAF uniform that I had in 1966.

FlicketyB Thu 16-May-13 19:45:46

A big warm woolen sweater I bought in 1963 when working as a waitress in Windemere

The dress I made for my Graduation Ball in 1964, a bit on the tight side now

A Chinese style evening coat my mother bought in Hong Kong in about 1953 and which I wear over my dress on my annual visit to Glynebourne.

I think all my clothes are old and some of them are very old. I do very occasionally wear my "wedding dress" - a one-off designer number (1978) made from cream silk and Victorian lace if I attend some very formal occasion. (It does still fit me.) It isn't a traditional wedding dress, just a long and rather beautiful garment. However, I don't go to many of those sorts of occasions so it will probably now end up in the granddaughters' dressing-up box.

Our family christening robe was made for my Aunt Jean in 1910 and had its fifth outing for DG2's baby naming ceremony 3.5 years ago. The pictures of her wearing it and the matching hat now feature in DD1's leaflet advertising her Independent Ceremonies.

Mine, too Aka. My son recently asked about it, as he had also been christened in it 38 years ago, so wanted it for my new grandson. 3 months old and it won't fasten round his neck or fit his little arms. It makes a great heirloom, though. smile

Sook Thu 16-May-13 17:38:52

Oh Grannylin an Ossie Clark wedding dress sigh. I loved his designs.

I still have my wedding dress circa 1975 and no it doesn't fit me any more. I have a Wallis blouse circa 1977 which I wear occasionally and a fair isle sweater circa 1987 hand knitted by moi. Other than that I have a large collections of scarves from 1975 to present day which I do wear (not all at once I might add) grin

Aka Thu 16-May-13 17:19:38

I still have the dress I was christened in, made of parachute silk,

Butty Thu 16-May-13 16:56:19

Your list, Gally sounds lovely and fascinating. smile

Much more interesting that what I'm still wearing on my walks; a kagool for those non-wet but windy days, that my son stopped wearing when he was about 15. That makes it around 24 years old. Love it. It couldn't be more comfortable. A true 'wash and wear' item!

Gally Thu 16-May-13 16:22:37

Oops' just read 'oldest piece of clothing' - went a bit overboard with my list blush

Gally Thu 16-May-13 16:16:22

A pink suede skirt and waistcoat I had made in 1969; a purple embroidered hooded Indian top worn in my 'hippy' days circa 1966; my silk, sequin covered Rumak & Sample wedding dress from 1973. Also have a crewel (?) embroidered fitted linen dressing gown my Dad brought home to my Mum from Calcutta in 1945. Needless to say it only fits a very slim size 10 so no good to a large size 14! I have lots more but all relegated years ago to the dressing up box. Seems I just can't get rid of anything - ever hopeful they may be desirable antiques one day wink

Around about 1970, my friend next door but one was about to throw out a lovely emerald green jumper, so I said that I`d have it. I wore it on a regular basis until a couple of years ago when it went into a charity bag, still pretty much OK, apart from the sleeves going a little baggy at the cuffs. My current oldest item is a royal blue sparkly jumper that my eldest daughter bought me for Christmas 1987, but not worn for a while.

Grandmanorm Thu 16-May-13 16:04:36

I have a jersey that my Gran knitted for me to go ski-ing when I was 16. it is as good as new, mainly because I haven't worn it much as I was a really skinny schoolgirl. I am now a rounded almost 72!!!
I cannot throw it out so shall pass it on to whichever grandchild wants it, if anyone wants such a thing nowadays.

Grannylin Thu 16-May-13 15:14:59

I can still fit into my 41 year old Ossie Clark, cream, wedding dress...but it is quite droopy and ties at the back. My Dad said it looked like an old woman's nightdress....now there's an idea grin

Maniac Thu 16-May-13 14:16:24

A fair isle cardigan (Kaffe Fasset pattern)which I knitted in 1980s was packed away in loft.On a recent visit brought down and my DD1 raved about it- took it back to London where long patterned cardigans are selling well on Ebay. She is wearing not selling!

Gagagran Thu 16-May-13 13:44:07

gracesmum well all I can say is "if only". I bet not many Grans can still fit into their wedding dresses!

Movedalot Thu 16-May-13 13:20:51

Still have my wedding dress and going away outfit but don't wear them! I do however still wear a sundress I bought in a sale in Belgium in 1988, it comes out every summer.

j08 Thu 16-May-13 12:54:16

I have a pair of baby mittens I knitted at school when I was ten.

I remember the anguish. #I'vedroppedastitchMiss
