Will Gove's proposals help or hinder learning?

I don't think many people would deny the importance of grammar and punctuation in making text understandable. However, Mark Steel, in his inimitable style, argues that, if there is too much emphasis on grammatical rules, we are in danger of of killing children's joy in reading and learning. What do you think?

I agree 100% with Mark Steel, Michael Gove is a danger to the education system. Learning facts by wrote, being tested on grammar in primary school? For those who find already find school less than engaging this will just serve to put them off completely.

The school head teachers association meeting has been complaining strongly about him. No one withough experience of teaching should be allowed to be an education minister.
