I have never heard of him. Maybe I do not get out enough!

I don't think it's the wife that has the problem; surely it's the men not being able to turn down the advances of celebrity besotted younger women? I was sad to hear of Bill Nighy and Diana Quick splitting up a few years back because of his sudden popularity. I do hope Jeremy Irons and Sinead Cusack never split up sad. They seem to have sorted the fame thing out rather well.

Why should a sudden rise to fame and the adulation that goes with it be hard for any wife to take?

Sometimes these things happen, whether your famous or not, sad theirs has to be in the limelight - I have 2 dear friends whose husbands have left them this week, how hideous if they had to play it out on the public glare

I think many GN members have played their part in praising him/his beard/his bread over the past few months! grin

Who is Paul Hollywood?

merlotgran Fri 17-May-13 17:50:47

Not inevitable, gracesmum but a sudden rise to fame and the adulation that goes with it would probably be hard for any wife to take.

gracesmum Fri 17-May-13 17:39:31

Explain please - why are you not surprised? is it inevitable?

kittylester Fri 17-May-13 17:21:17

Perhaps he has started to believe his own publicity. grin

Sad though sad as is any marriage break up.

merlotgran Fri 17-May-13 17:15:45

I'm not surprised either.

whenim64 Fri 17-May-13 16:30:42

Can't say I'm surprised!

So Paul Hollywood and his wife are splitting up.
He had been due to appear tomorrow at an event to sign copies of his book Paul Hollywood's Bread, which accompanies his television show. Apparently the relationship between Hollywood and his wife Alexandra has now floundered and confirmation comes just days after he turned up to the TV Baftas without her.
He has recently been working on a US version of the contest called The American Baking Competition with Marcela Valladolid, 34, taking the place of cookery guru Mary Berry who starred in the BBC2 version.
Am I reading too much into the age given of his co-presenter? (No suggestion that Mary Berry was ever part of this.) Am I cynical? Am I sad that another marriage has apparently not survived the "limelight"? Yes to all 3 sad
