I love Menorca, the small unspoilt resorts and Ciutadella town, just being there does me no end of good.
WORD PAIRS -APRIL 2026 (Old thread full )
Nicola Sturgeons husband pleads guilty.
I love Menorca. It has varied countryside, lovely beaches, and pretty little white houses dotted about everywhere.
Kefalonia has beautiful scenery and nice beaches.
Not keen on Lanzarote - a bit dull.
I love Menorca, the small unspoilt resorts and Ciutadella town, just being there does me no end of good.
Venice. We are lucky enough to have been 4 times. I had always wanted to go but never thought it would happen. It always seems sort of unreal to me - like a make believe place. To see the gondolas going up and down the winding canals, sometimes with a tenor singing onboard is magical. The artists with their easels set up along the edge of St Marks Square painting the breathtaking views, people dancing to the orchestras in St Marks Square at night is wonderful. It is very expensive but you can find little places where you can eat and drink quite reasonably. Heaven!
The next one is always my favourite!
We have been fortunate to have some wonderful holidays, everything from camping to decadent luxury and have enjoyed them all but the worst have been the DH 'surprises' - Gibralter in the rain, the most boring, flattest part of France which was dominated by a factory owned by my then employer! Now he even leaves short breaks to me to organise!
Number please-I've just bought ferry ticket to IOW using Tesco vouchers.£10 worth of vouchers gets you £30 worth of fare.
Isles of Scilly is favourite but that is also v expensive to reach .
Eloethan and Nelliemoser, I loved the IOW on our 4 visits there, but we haven`t been for a few years now, can`t afford to take the car, caravan and ourselves over on the ferry anymore. Our favourite part was Freshwater Bay.
Just come back from one of my two favourites. It is a 'nearly perfect' campsite just outside of Hereford. Perfect and so relaxing.
I had forgotten Benidorm at Christmas. DS and his GF were working there. He was a rep for Thompson's Young at Heart programme, and found me a room in a rather dismal hotel, full of old people - well, I was quite a bit younger then! All I can remember about the place is how drab and gloomy it was - and quite cool as well.
Eleothan and I now live in Devon, so I understand the rain..it was all just so not my thing; it was a while ago and we were trying to take an interest in one another's likes and dislikes. Even Theseus admitted it could have been so much better! Now, I can walk on a beach in the rain and it doen't bother me. But we do go our separate ways in some areas, like mud, and long distance cycling, and poetry and music. (him and me!) All very happily agreed, I have to say.
But our big travels are discussed, agreed and looked forward to. Like SA in January!
I've had two bad experiences of IoW as well nelliemoser and it's put me off going again, which in a way I regret because several people I know really love it.
We went to a caravan on the IOW when kids were 6 and 8, very hard up. Husband on a grant. It was generallycold and wet. One day the sun came out and DS went into the sea. The sun went in again behind a big black cloud. DS came out of sea blue with cold and we wrapped him in a black bin liner to get him warm quickly.
Too much rain and B*** sea gulls stomping about on the roof of the van in the early morning. I have no desire to return to the said island. Ever!
Such a difficult question - I love different places for different reasons.
Loved Bali, huts on the beach , open showers, cheap lobsters, but I was a lot younger then.
Love London - now we live in Cornwall visiting London for a weekend as a tourist is fantastic.
Loved the Amalfi coast of Italy, food, people, scenery and wine.
Hated camping on a site in France.
Hated Rome in Holy week!
petra Although Rossi's ice cream is nice, I don't think it's as nice as it was years ago - but perhaps that's just a case of the "blue remembered hills" of memory.
When we stayed at my granddad's in Suffolk, we often used to go to Brightlingsea - I loved it. I haven't been there for ages and, sadly, what I associate it with now is the picketing against the transport of live animals that took place a few years ago.
Ariadne We used to live about a 30 mins' drive away from the Lake District and, on a good day, it's really lovely, but, as you discovered, it does rain a lot!
Well if you don't remember, vegas ........that's Las Vegas for you!
Bring them to the meetup at the end of the month, and we'll tell all the Gransnetters what you got up to!
when yes, there are photos, but none I'd like to put on GN. However, could bring them to a meet up! No theme, but you really didn't need one.
It was also shown on the internet so that all our friends and family could see. It was hilarious. I think we were married by a cowboy, but I'm not really sure.
This thread has made me want to look at the holiday sites online! Did a cruise last year, Tenerife and Malta already booked for this year - hmm maybe a tour of USA might be good (whilst I am still mobile!!)
I hated my one visit to the Lake District! I know, I know...but it rained and rained and rained, and we walked and walked and walked, and we were staying in a little hotel full of hearty types and there was no hot water when we returned for another wet and muddy walk.
I have loved holidays in: the Rockies; San Francisco; Carcassone; Minneapolis; Lake Garda; our friends' cabin on a lake in deepest Minnesota; The Gower; New Hampshire; Dartmoor; Brighton; and KwaZuluNatal.
As I type, I realise how lucky I am - I could have gone on and on!
Lee, near Ilfracombe North Devon, lovely rock pools. lovely nearby beaches, best chip shop in the world at Braunton, and easy access to Mist the Sheepdog farm and show ! Great holiday with little people
Suits all pockets, no passport needed
My like and dislikes have changed as I have gotten older. When DH was alive I used to love visiting our little place in Spain - now I know I will never return there - too painful. For a really relaxing holiday Fiji - lovely people, lovely weather, beautiful beaches. Loved San Francisco. I also want to return to Rome only had a short time there but loved it.
Blackpool, Malaga, Benidorm and the like you can keep.
Huge respect Vegas. What a way to have a memorable wedding. Any photos, by any chance? Did you have a themed wedding?
when - I know what you mean about Las Vegas! You need another holiday to get over the first. I also got married in the Drive Thru Tunnel of Love
That's funny,Eloethan. We were in Rossi's this morning.
Favorite place's. The end of the river behind Brightlingsea (Essex) and the River Deban (Suffolk) all of Easter France.
Holiday from hell: Egypt. We are talking mice in the walls, electric shock from taps, staff letting themselves into guests rooms ( while they were in there) etc etc.
The most exhausting: China.
Vegas
I went there once, had a ball and enjoyed the casinos and shows, and don't ever want to go back! It was like being on high levels of caffeine round the clock - permanently wired!
But the Italian Lakes.....aaahhhhh....every time
Good job we're not all the same, eh?
I like visiting different places and of all the countries I have visited I would say Vietnam is top of the list.. So interesting, not globalised and the people are happy, smiling ad helpful.
Hobart in Tasmania is also a great place to visit.
El Salvador is working hard to develop a tourist industry and make visitors very welcome.
As my name implies, Las Vegas is my favourite destination. I've been there many times, to play poker. Just don't ever ask me to go back to the Italian lakes!
High five, number
