I bet you will really enjoy eating the eggs! What will you do with them?

I remember when we first had chickens it took me several days to eat one of the eggs. I suddenly realised that they were coming out of a hen's bottom! Luckily I soon realised that it was worth putting up with the bottom bit to have bigger, fresher, better tasting eggs than the shop ones. I just wish I had room for some hens now smile

I took a photo of our first egg and emailed the family. They worry about my sanity from time to time! I'm very fond of our chickens, even though they have caused some major alterations to the garden planting plan. I'm sure the lack of slugs is down to them, and I'm very grateful.

When my squeamish DS baulked at freshly laid eggs because they came out of a hen's bottom, I suggested that he should reflect on where he came from. grin

DH Loves chickens and buys magazines about them - we have the space but he would need to build a really good run and house for them. Also there is the problem of possibly eating them and how and who gets them from the run to the table!!!!!( not me!!). grin

In the animal cemetary in Paris [I googled it when we were talking about Paris t'other day] is the grave of Cocotte, someone's pet hen, who lived for 15 years. I had no idea hens could live so long. Although they were driving me bonkers with the crowing early in the morning, I'm rather missing the bantams that were living on the other side of my garden fence [they've moved closer to their owner, either because Mr Fox got a few or my neighbours complained about the noise].

Actually, she was 16!

nonna oh I cant wait to get our hens, our farmer neighbour gave me a dozen eggs last time we were up at the house, they were delicious. The family laughed at me when I said how much tastier they were so I gave them a blind test and guess which won hands down. grin

My daughter informed two days ago that I now have two grandducks!! confused She's looking forward to using the eggs for baking, but as the ducklings are only a few weeks old she'll have a bit of a wait.

anno your anecdote reminded me of the story about the lady who refused a slice of tongue saying she couldn't possibly eat anything that had come out of a cow's mouth so she thought she would just have an egg.

Daisyanswerdo anno I love those comments! grin grin
