No sign of the sparrowhawk and the rat has just scoffed all the food on the bird table. Just had a horrid thought that the sparrowhawk was, in fact, after the little birds that frequent the bird table [not the rats]. I do need to find someone with a ferret.

Tegan if you ever find a solution to your rat problem please tell me. We live in the country,I understand that there will be rats, and as long as they stay outside, I don't mind, too much, but NOT when they dance on the roof in hobnailboots before even the blessed birds are awake.

We seem to have a bad problem with mice and rats in our gardens at the moment [it got worse when the farmer put some bantams on the other side of our garden fence, and both me and two of my neighbours have been seeing mice and rats even in broad daylight] but felt that something was trying to kill them for us. First thought it was an owl [which it probably is; we certainly have a tawny owl nearby], but just, now I saw a sparrowhawk sitting on my garden fence. I feel as if the cavalry has arrived! Have drawn the curtains at the back of my house, though, as I have had sparrowhawks fly into the patio window before, and don't want that to happen. number; I was looking at my calendar yesterday and saw 'longest day' on the next page along. Hard to believe, isn't it sad.

Colder here today, sun, rain, sun, rain, all flippin` day, with some hail thrown in for good measure. The ice cream man was a cheerful soul, he said "just think, another 28 days and the nights will start drawing in again"!

I went out beguiled by the sunshine this morning and wore a Tshirt but I did wear a think fleece too - the wind by the Castle in Cardiff was so cold. It was interesting to see the huge variation in dress of the people about - it ranged from young brave men in short sleeved shirts to grandmothers who had taken no chance and had their thick winter macs on!
Sun is out again now and it is lovely sitting in its glow in the kitchen.

I've got the heating on, it's a freezing cold windy day with lots of sunshine confused

Tegan Thu 23-May-13 13:05:36

Hailstorm here in Derbyshire. Heard something hard hit the window with quite a lot of force [think it was a pine cone] wind got up and then hailstones started to come down. This weather is quite unbelieveable. Just going to put the heating on sad.

Lucky neighbours Gally you could be saving them a job.
DH has decided to take himself off to our other home, I declined his invitation to accompany him, way too much to do here grin now where was I ? oh yes handbags smile

sunshine Beautiful sunny day here in Fife - not a cloud in the sky but I reckon the wind is near gale force. I've just spread 4 large sacks of bark over the garden and am waiting for it to re-arrange itself elsewhere hmm

Like April today, sunshine and showers. Storm must have been local Stansgran we didn't get it, did get the rain though.
Flickety how distressing, always a worry when carrying a little one. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to both.
I see on facebook DS has man-flu again that will make the weekend fun.

janerowena Thu 23-May-13 12:08:06

We have just had a hailstorm, in Suffolk.

Roll on Spring.

soop Thu 23-May-13 11:33:08

FlicketyB...good to know that you can be of great help. flowers

It is a grey-ish, blustery, cool, 'though dry day in bonnie Kintyre. The sea is crashing on the rocks. I can hear the shingle shifting from here.

whenim64 Thu 23-May-13 10:37:36

Ohhh, Flickety I hope they're both gong to be ok. What a nasty shock. flowers

FlicketyB Thu 23-May-13 10:22:53

How did that happen?

FlicketyB Thu 23-May-13 10:22:34

Nasty start to the day. I was sitting drawing up my shopping list for the weekend, DS and family were coming down to us for the bank holiday, when DS rang to cancel because our DDiL had a bad fall when walking to bus stop carrying DGS. Her ankle gave and she fell on top of DGS. She has damaged, but not broken ankle, and cannot walk and DGS, aged 2, has a badly bruised face.

So we are heading north this weekend rather than them heading south.

Grey skies, rain, wind what's new sad

Stansgran Thu 23-May-13 08:18:06

Horrid storm last night with thunder and lightning and hail finishing off the spring flowers. Blue sky this morning but it seems to be a blowy cold wind.

ps Thu 23-May-13 08:00:20

As usual it's miserable in the North West. Has been raining but currently not, therefore by definition is about to!

Bez Thu 23-May-13 07:56:01

Good morning - sunshine here at the moment in South Wales. Off early this morning - going back to the dentist.

gillybob Thu 23-May-13 07:51:25

Grey clouds gathering over the North East coast. After yesterday I wouldn't think there would be any rain left to fall.
Have a good Thursday everyone, just off to work. smile

PRINTMISS Thu 23-May-13 07:42:18

Good morning! We have a sunny start here, but cold I think. We seem to have really lovely evenings recently, just as everyone is starting to settle down, the sun shines, think its clocks gone wrong. Enjoy your day

12Michael Thu 23-May-13 06:50:18

Good Morning Everyone,
Its a suny start here in Brackley this morning.
